Does anyone use label certificates?
I am doing some research on how willing notaries are to use notarial certificates printed on labels that can be affixed on a page. The most obvious concern is that the labels could be removed, but aren't they more secure than loose certificates? I would like some opinions on this.

Hi Robert~ I thought the idea of having a loose certificate stapeled to a doc is so that if it were removed, there would be holes giving clue to it. With a label, there would be no such proof.

This has been discussed before. It seems that our much missed PAW used to use them. He emailed me a sample of what he used to use.
I haven't used them yet, I'm not sure how accepted they would be.
I'll see if I can find the old thread.

I do. Make 'em myself. 2 sizes. Used infrequently with GNW. There ARE different kinds of 'sticky' on labels. Some are permanent and very hard/impossible to remove without destroying them and the paper. Others are advertised as being removable...and they are...you don't want that kind.

I've never printed notary certs on labels. I personally don't see anything wrong with that. Permanent labels have to be used, the ones that will destroy the page and itself if there's an attempt to peel it off. I use permanent gold seals with my embosser. I tested it once - didn't emboss it - just put it on a blank page. Tried to peel it off and the paper was destroyed. The office supply store had the permanent gold seals....not sure if they stock permanent labels. If you find an online store that carries them, please let us know.

Avery labels for DIY certs
Avery has templates that you can download and try before you buy. I think most labels are permanent, but do know they have removable ones, too. The 'removable' is a prominent feature. Like you, I stuck one on both 20 lb. copy paper and a sturdy bond paper and tried to take it off. Not happening. Lot of destruction to both label & paper.

Avery labels don't stick well when old
I have some old Avery 8160 inkjet labels which went through laser printers just fine too. But when the unused sheets got old and I printed them and put them on envelopes, they didn't stick very well. I've never done the experiment of putting a label on paper, waiting 5 years, and seeing if it still stuck well. Considering that a few states require notarization of notes, and original notes might have to be produced after 30 years, I wouldn't chance it.

Good point. Some adhesives appear to wear out after time....I have seen that on other things involving paper, not to mention other items. Don't even get me started on super glue or gorilla glue, who both have terrific ad campaigns.

Good point...and correct. They do tend to fall off after a good period of time. But I only use them for GNW where whoever produced the doc didn't have enough sense to include either an Ack or Jurat on their form. This is usually some gov. form where they get all upset with loose attachments--and, frankly, if enough fall off maybe they'll learn to include them. Or something that's a 'once & done' sorta thing.

Isn't this the same as stamping the info? Why buy labels indefinitely when you can buy a self-inking stamp the same size with the info you need? To me it's the same difference.
