Thank you Robert...
Wish they'd have raised the bond requirement ... I think that's an important part of weeding out those who mean it from those who play at it.
Thanks for this info.

I spoke with the person responsible for this bill
and I gave her my proposed changes: increased bond, mandatory background check, class required for first time AND renewing applicants, required exam, etc. She said that a task force did an investigation of the governor's office and found a ton of things wrong but that SB 2104 was a "compromise".

I noticed they used to require applicants to put their full name on the notary application, but that is changed to legal name. I wonder if they have figured out what a legal name is? It always struck me as a murky concept.

Your legal name maybe Jane Q. Doe, but you apply as J Q Doe, that's what they are stopping.

They probably want to be able to do a BGC. They require a FL driver's license or FL ID card number on application. You still can use other than "legal" name as comissioned name. e.g Joseph Quincey Public can use: Joe Q Public J Quincey Public J Q Public etc.
But, must show Joseph Quincey Public on application

I'll worry about it when it becomes law. Right now what counts is the current statutes.
