How do you handle it?
If you accept a signing, call the customer to confirm, and then the ss wants you to do extra tasks with no extra pay, do you call the customer to inform them you are not coming out or let the ss do the calling?

Depends on whether I agreed to a reduced fee (which is never) and what hoops they want me to jump thru. What are they asking of you?

I do call and let the borrower know that my schedule has changed and their closing is being reassigned to another notary. I let them know this so (1) they are not confused when another notary calls them to confirm, and (2) so they do not call me when/if the other notary is late or flakes on them.

I agree and if I may, I would add a third reason 3) because the signer is in my local area it is just good customer service and may help me and my business out in the long run.

Thanks for all the comments. This is exactly how I handle it also, although I have encountered several who say it's not their job to call the customer.

It is important to call the customer...good customer service...and DO THIS BEFORE you print out the doc set. I run into situations, especially refi's, where the customer doesn't think it is a good deal and wants to cancel the 'closing' at the last minute after they have looked over all the numbers. The notary may be the first to know.
