Inmate Signing - Questions
This is the first I will be doing with an inmate and I am wondering what form of ID should be used? I wouldn't think that the jail/prison would allow them to have their CA ID, so would I need to be signing with witnesses? Can anyone help?

"(e) An inmate identification card issued by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, if the inmate is in custody;"
Page 8 of your handbook

Thank you, I saw that as well. I guess I should have changed the order I reviewed things. Again, thanks for the reply.

Do a search on someone who does these in CA
I don't do jail signings but also according to the book under Subsection 3 it states "Other California-approved ID consisting of any one of the following provided that it also contains a photograph, description of the person, signature of the person and an identifying number."
I don't know if an inmate ID has all the above requirements so I would ask someone who does these on a regular basis what they accept.
I believe Marian/CA does quite a few of these.

i have only done a couple of these. In each case, the inmate had a wristband on (similar to what they give you in hospitals) that basically had all the info same as on a driver's license, i.e., photo, name, DOB, Dept of Corr. I.D. #,etc. Additionally, the sheriff was friendly and gave me a copy of their printout on the inmate that had all the info on the inmate as you would find on a driver's license. Hope that helps.

I hope Marian chimes in here...
None of the items you mentioned are acceptable ID - at least not the way I read your handbook. Your handbook:
"A. Paper Identification Documents – Identity of the signer can be established by the notary public’s reasonable reliance on the presentation of any one of the following documents, if the identification document is current or has been issued within five years (Civil Code section 1185(b)(3) & (4)): 3. Other California-approved identification card, consisting of any one of the following, provided that it also contains a photograph, description of the person, signature of the person, and an identifying number"
blah blah
Wristbands and those printouts don't contain a signature, do they? If not, not acceptable.

I no longer notarize at jails/detention centers. I refer these requests to LaShon James-Major.
