Memberships
I just discovered the American Society of Notaries and was curious if other notaries think it's worth it to be a member. I was surprised that I hadn't stumbled on it before in all of my notary we surfing.

It depends upon the reason you are considering joining. If you are looking for membership in a professional industry association, then it's worth joining. If you are looking at membership to increase your business calls from new clients, my experience was that it did not accomplish that. I was a member for one year.

It's a long standing association with a lot of integrity and good knowledge base. However, I never did receive any tangible business from this site. I was a member in the early days of this business, but have not renewed because I needed to watch my expenses and only belong to those boards that result in profitable opportunities.

Ditto...information coming from that site is much more
reliable than the "other" place and for that I was thankful. As for business, I don't think it's structured to bring business in and I can't ever say anyone ever said they found me there. As for discounts on supplies, etc, I just got mine here.

I am a member of all three main societies
They are all good in their own ways. The ASN is good, especially for us Florida notaries, because they are based in Florida. Their supplies are decent quality and I like their journal.

Professional Association to increase your KNOWLEDGE
I belong for the notarial and general knowledge I gain from this membership. ASN focuses on the notary as a public official and the "notary public" world.
It is not a company targeted to grow your business as a signing agent, legal employee, or market your services as a "trusted" notary vs. a public low-paid official.

Re: Professional Association to increase your KNOWLEDGE
Seems there was a change in ownership (?) about 2 years ago. I've been a member for over 10 years. Suddenly I wasn't listed and the site wouldn't show any Florida notaries that I used to refer to. When I contacted they said there was a 'management change & web redesign". Since then I haven't renewed, nor did I get any correspondence requesting renewal.
