National Notary Association????

I have some questions and I am hoping you can help me out. I am a paying member here at Notary Rotary......love this website......love the people who run it......and I get a lot of business from it. I didn't think I needed to sign up anywhere else. I have heard of some of the other websites that I know are like a Notary Rotary but I have no interest in being a member of those websites. Notary Rotary has been very good to me and my business. I know this may sound very dumb to some of you more seasoned notaries, so please try to be kind when answering.

What exactly is the National Notary Assocation? Is that the professional organization that notaries are supposed to belong to? Or is it like a Notary Rotary? Do people belong to both Notary Rotary and the National Notary Association? Should I pay the $179.00 to be a certified signing agent? Is it a conflict of interest to talk about belonging to the National Notary Association on this website? I have been in the morgage business for a very long time, but I am still new to the notary business and still learning my way around.

Thank you for any help you can give to me. It is greatly appreciated.

From your profile: "I am an experienced and professional Notary Signing Agent with ten years of loan closing experience in both Residential and Commercial Real Estate transactions"

If this is truly your experience, you do not need the NNA - I think you have a background sufficient to teach THEM.

You can search here for the answer to your question as to who they are (and what their standing is) or google for info. I will refrain so as not to skew the answer with my slant on it. They are a national organization based in CA who has a huge lobbying presence and who does offer significant training and other info - all at a price. IMO you do not need this. Your money can be better spent in your own marketing and in joining other listing sites that WILL bring in a return on your dollar.

Seriously, ten years of experience and you NEVER heard of

the NNA? How is that even possible? They totally saturate the web with notary renewal, bla bla. Oh well, I guess it IS possible to have never heard of them. Amazing though...

Anywho, I'm a cnsa and I get a substantial amount of work from their signing agent dot com site. The other site is notary coffee site.

Joining and getting certified, depends on what you want to do with your career as a notary signing agent. As previously suggested, do the research here first, then determine your needs. For example, is this type of work, part-time or full-time work for you? If part-time, maybe not worth spending the big bucks on their outrageous fees and training. BUT, if you run an actual NSA business, you may want to consider it.

Good luck in your decision.

Re: Strongly agree with Linda

Thank you both so very much. That is exactly what I thought, but I was not sure. These companies try to tell you one thing.....but I know I will get the correct guidance here at Notary Rotary. Thank you again. Notary Rotary has been very good to me......I think I will spend my $169.00 on marketing as you suggested. I just signed up with a new title company here from Notary Rotary.....took their test.....and got 100%. All is well.

Re: National Notary Association-Congrats with the decision

First off, let me say that your questions is not silly actually, it's interesting to see how many ppl do not belong to a reputable association. It all depends on you...I am not a paying member on Notary Rotary however, I am a paying member with the NNA. For those who mention that NNA courses costs are both right and wrong. As a member looking to get Certified yes you must pay for the course. Once a member, you receive on going webinar training that cost nothing.

Some ppl don't know what Intellectual Capital Assets are and therefore do the common thing----but the fact that you are looking to do something different in 10 years is great!. Kudo's to you....you are now (not) amongst the rest who do nothing to invest in themselves and better yet have the smarts write it the NNA off

Because I do not invest in IBM or Intel does not mean

that I am computer illiterate.

Because I do not invest in NNA does not make me less of a notary nor signing agent.

What this really means is that I choose my companies wisely, invest where I see the greatest good for me with the most accurate information available to me. NNA has been very consistent in their incorrect answers to some of my questions, and even with great hubris, argues with the Florida SOS office about the meaning of Florida rulings and interpretations. I will stick with my state's interpretations instead of with a notoriously incorrect organization that is only interested in lining their pockets at my (great) expense.

To each her/his own. Were I in PA though, I would probably support my local notary association, PAN, Pennsylvania Association of Notaries, which is known nationwide for their great support of their notaries as well as their great educational benefits to notaries in PA, and by extension, notaries nationwide. There would be my first avenue to protect my intellectual capital assets. They probably don't charge enough for those eager to spend their money (foolishly).
