Receiving Loan Doc's

I am a new loan signing notary and purchased a Brother HL-5370DW laser printer that has dual trays. I purchased the printer thinking it would be able to to distinguish between letter and legal size documents. When lenders send loan doc's I assume they send them in a pdf format. Do they send letter and legal size documents in separate pdf's? I would like to hear from notaries as to how they print out the letter and legal size loan documents. Does anyone have a Brother HL-5370DW laser printer and how do you printout the doc's?

It's rare that they send you a letter file and a separate legal file - it does happen but I find it's rare. Most of the time the file is a mixture of letter and legal, all randomly placed within the file. When it prints, my HP dual tray automatically selects the correct paper size for each document.

Cooperhead thanks for your reply. When I purchased my printer I was told that it would automatically distinguish bewteen letter and legal size but it doesn't. I called Brother's tech support and was told that it can distinguish between letter and legal. Is your HP a laser printer and what model is it?

Keith,

It does automatically seperate letter from legal, but you have to set it up first.
You have to designate the second tray for legal and the first tray for letter or visa versa if you wish. After you set it up correctly it will seperate.

I have the same printer and have no problem. I'm trying to remember: right click on your printer and go into properties to set it up.

Buddy,

Thank you for your reply. The reason I purchased the Brother printer is because of comments I read on this forum. I don't understand why tech support has been unable to help me.
I will try to auto set up.

Thanks!

You might have to print out something, anything. Print page comes up and you have a lot of options at the top, one of them will let you set up the second tray.

I have the same printer. It does a fantastic job. It's a real work horse!! As Buddy said, all you have to do is set it up correctly in properties and print away.
It took me forever since I have about 10,000 emails, but I finally found the instructions, brothers customer service sent me. I've copy and pasted from the email. Hope this helps you. Good luck!!

The HL-5370DWT can automatically select the correct paper tray if your software supports this function and if you assign the paper size for each paper tray in the print driver.

To add the 2nd paper tray and assign the default paper size for each tray with the HL-5370DWT, follow the steps listed below.

1. Go to Start/Printers and then right click on your printer (HL-5370DW) and then select “Properties”

2. Click on the “Accessories” tab

3. Click on "add" in the Available Options section to add the LT-5300 paper tray. (You also could click on the “Auto Detect” button to add the tray.)

4. Assign the correct paper size for each tray by individually clicking on each tray in the “Paper Source Setting” section and selecting the appropriate paper size in the “Paper Size” section

5. Click on “Update” and then click on “Apply”.

Just one more thing.

After you have the extra tray loaded in accessories, make sure that when you are ready to print, and the printer box pops up, you also have the "Choose paper by PDF page size" box checked. You also need to have "Auto Select" selected in the preferences tab.
I also have a Brother HL-5370DW. You are welcome to call if you need help.
