The wrath brought on by Msg. 41695
I don't usually do this but I was awestruck by some of the responses inspired by my somewhat idle comment about initialing pages 2,3 and 4 of the W9. First of all for anyone who read it, I am sorry if you didn't realize the comments were meant to be treated lightly.
Secondly, what I was talking about was not pages that are indicated for initialing like Chase who YES are very particular. I was MILDLY curious WHY out of 125 pages did they pick ONLY the W9 pages 2,3,4 to be initialed.... No biggie. Meant to be funny. I thought it was amusing. Ergo my comments about lawyering up and reading the pages and bank saying I have proof. Obviously I was the only one who saw the visual picture and humor.
Never did I image that someone would say that If you don't like it people, don't do the job. Where is all of this coming from. And how did it get from my comment, to don't do the work. All this anger.
My personal position. I don't spend time arguing with lenders and title companies on what they want. If it is in their instructions and not illegal I do it. If I don't want to do it, I do not take their work. Exactly. Thank you for listening everyone. Have a very nice day.

What's crazy too is that Chase also requires page 1 of the W-9 to be initialed, even though it already has a signature. So it's all four pages of that document that require initials.

Don't you just hate it when that happens?
You post something in jest and it suddenly blows up in your face? I've had it happen to me.
Some misread or misinterpret and the next thing you know, you're getting blasted.
That's why I don't post much anymore.

Just a mention on the original post
I have come across many DOT's recorded on County websites that had initial lines on each page that were left blank. Go figure.
Comments on this site ...just write it off to someone having a bad day and a little too much vino. My pet peeve of the day: I'm printing docs as I write this. Instructions for borrower to initial 17 pages of lender instructions (why??) and two attachments with a few initial documents (TIL, 1003, GFE) that are also included in the loan package.

Whats really funny are the instructions by a certain lender to have make sure page 3 of the 4506 is initialed.

Re: Just a mention on the original post
And then there is the instruction to have the xxxxx form filled out and signed properly, but it is strictly numbers in the "x's". Why can't they say the name of the form, and then include it in the package? Can search and search and never find xxxxx.
It appears we could go on forever - each set of documents has something that is totally strange, odd, funny, weird to our way of thinking, either irritating us or amusing us depending upon our frame of mind for the day as well.

I read your message and assumed you were being facetious. Surprised anyone took it seriously.
Regarding the random initialing of certain forms: I see that sort of thing a lot. Sometimes it's the 4506t with initials. Other times it's the W9. Other times it's both or neither.
I questioned a title company about the inconsistencies in their forms years ago and was told that they updated some of their forms and not others. I received a W9 in a package recently that was a very old version. So, I guess some don't update some of the forms very often.
Borrowers notice that sort of stuff sometimes and think it's humorous too.

The reason behind some of the instructions we receive reminds me of the story about the newlywed who was preparing a ham for Easter dinner by cutting off both ends of the ham before placing it in the pan.
When asked why, she said, "Because Mom always did." Thinking about it, she decided to ask Mom why.
"Because Grandma always did it." So Grandma was asked why.
"Because the pan was too small for the ham. I had to cut the meat to fit."
Sometimes things just get done because they've always been done that way.

I agree that requiring initials on those pages is a
total PIA. I often miss them. I'm with you in seeing the humor is asking for it. :-)

And I just received docs yesterday with instructions not to print "Closing Instructions" for the borrowers, they don't need them, but to make sure they are included with the original that gets sent back to them, and if the borrowers have questions as to why, I am to call them (closing agent). Sounds good to me.

I love it.... I just love it. lol... Don't you love when it says make the borrowers affidavit is completely filled out by the borrower out and there is nothing to fill out. At first you think there must be another affidavit. But then you realize the instructions are mismatched with the affidavit in the package... How smart are we?

On the subject of a form having to be completely filled out by the borrower, don't you hate it when there is a Statement of Information? It is especially a pain when the borrowers are in their 30's and have had several jobs and moved several times. At closing it is a bit late to ask for the information - I would think that they would need it as part of the applicaiton process.

Right. And have you ever had them tell you that they have already done this and sent it in to the bank? No you are both PO'd and you have to offer your sympathy to the borrower....lol

After re-reading your initial post & thread
I don't see where anyone responded to you rudely, or with anger. IMO, you're reading more into the comments than what was meant, grow a thicker skin. Personally, we don't need to know "WHY" the TC's or lender's request anything pertaining to the documents. We either comply with the request or get replaced with someone that will. Not really complicated. We also don't know what Fed, State, or County Regulation they are attempting to appease either that they may think is mundane, they are just trying to comply so they can stay in business just like the rest of us in this crazy mortgage business.

Re: After re-reading your initial post & thread
I agree. When I saw the post this morning I went back and re-read it. Again, to me, it appeared serious, thus my response.
And Barb, if you think the original post generated "wrath", you don't know this board very well. I thought everyone answered with well thought out serious answers to what we thought were serious questions. Guess if we are going to practice satire in the written word we should indicate it somehow. It's much easier to detect in the spoken word when you can see the person because so much is displayed in tone and gestures.

Actually, Desktopfull, I think some people just read more in
to my original comment than what I meant. Some people got it some didn't. I thought I apologized for that this morning. I don't know why it starting all over. My skin is just fine. I don't want to insult or criticize anyone else. If it makes someone's day to criticize me so be it. I just hope it will be in some constructive form. These are certainly my last words on the topic. I am not nor have I ever been offended over this. Hopefully I have not offended anyone else.

If you want to have fun & laughs on the site try the
Leisure forum. I'm sure that the reps from the TC's & SS's reading your complaints about following their instructions (however, you may have meant it) as being unnecessary very interesting. Especially since your profile is linked to your comments. I've found it best to stay professional on the work forum.

Wow!.....Pins and needles, needles and pins, a happy notary is a notary who grin!!
In all due respect to all members on notary rotary who use this forum, I think it is terrible that we have sunk to jumping on fellow peers when we dont like what they post. It seems sometimes for no reason other than we want to start a conflict. Personally, if I don't like what I read I either stop reading it or move on to something else, but I would never ever, berate a fellow notary because I don't like what they posted. When did this forum become a sounding board for criticism against another notary? This is just not right!! Unless you have been voted in by us to comment you likes or dislikes on the postings of your peers, then I dont think that should be aloud on this board. You have no more right to correct what I post than I have to correct what you post. Respect, Respect, Respect...show some respect...Unless a comment violates the rules of this board, then a comment should be made and only by its moderator!
Have a great night my friends :-)
