need help with scanner
I have a Cannon mx340 copy, scan fax machine. I really need some help here...... when I scan it scans to some picture viewer or some other program that can not be opened by anothers computer when e mailed. Can someone help me figure a way to scan to word. I do not have PDF software other than the reader side of it. YIKES!

I have issues with my new scanner (it's not a Cannon though) as well - have to scan my docs to a thumb drive and save the info in the computer from there. Then I can then upload it or whatever. We have not figured out what the issues with not being able to just scan directly to the computer. Not sure if that helps or not.

I have a different Cannon scanner (only--not multifunction) that somehow stopped behaving and was, as you said, scanning to some picture program....although the receiving party could read it, it was a real PITA process. You might try uninstalling and reinstalling. That got mine back to normal.
Hope someone who really knows something about this can help you.

I'm going to help you both, Lee & OP
Do your scanning. You are going to download CutePDF, which will show as a Printer. After you scan, you will print to CutePDF, (not printer 1 or 2 or a or b - one of the ones you always use) give it a name and that file becomes name_you_give_it.pdf. Then you will open your documents by recent date, find it quickly and send as attachment to whoever_is_asking.com.
I don't have a Canon, not cannon to shoot water balloons, but I do have a Brother and oh, brother, is it a great one to have. Mine uses Passport software, but they are all pretty much the same. CutePDF can be fund on any free download site and that converts from that unreadable file to pdf so easily. You will love it once you use it a few times.

Check your printer options and see if you have a PDF writer installed from when you added your printer to your system. When I added my brother Mulitifunction machine to my system it added Paperport (Nuance) which is a high quality PDF program.
If you don't have a pdf writer in your system, you can buy cheap PDF programs at officemax or other office supply stores. I have Nitro PDF which retailed for $50.00 in 2009. It will write document scans to PDFs, JPGs and MS Word. It also converts between the three. Another option is scanning the document to Windows Paint and save as a JPG, but it only images one page at a time, so that would not be a good option for any document over 1 page.
