Don't you just love it when
you have all your Monday appointments lined up and evenly spaced.
Spent the last two days calling to confirm appointments. Left messages on all of them and no one calls back.
I won't keep appointments unless I can actually talk to the borrower and confirm. I will try and call again tomorrow.

You may already do this Buddy, but when I run
into that problem where I have to make multiple calls to the signers, my final call to them states the particulars again and says 'I'm calling about our appointment for tomorrow at <<time>>....I need to speak with you prior to the appointment..please call to confirm your availability...if I do not receive a return call from you I will assume you will not be proceeding with this signing and I will notify the appropriate parties."
I won't go out blind either. I also won't chase people. If they want the loan they'll call to confirm. AFter this last call I also let the hiring party know I'm having a problem confirming and if I can't confirm with the signers then it's a no-go.
Good Luck!

Remember, though, that the borrowers aren't NSAs
and they just might not listen to a message right away from a number that they do not know.

Couple of ways to go there: Leave on the msg that they
are scheduled to sign their important docs at o'clock thirty, that you will be there, and request they have proper ID to allow for a smooth closing.
Email/call hiring party/LO/every contact one has, with status: msg left, no responses. Request full fee if BOs are no show/sign in writing to continue assignment.
Or, don't show, don't communicate, and probably forfeit fee, even for printing.
Not to disparage another way to go - just imparting long experience for best outcomes, because I'm partial to great outcomes.

I certainly understand the requirement for the borrowers to call back and confirm the signing appt. Nobody wants to waste gas/time/printing/prepping/getting dressed - all for nothing.
City notaries have their travel issues too. Depending on time of the appt, a 25 mile, 30 minute drive can take up to 2 hours if it's during rush hour (3pm - 8pm weekdays). The metropolitan areas can include steep parking fees. Toll roads aren't cheap either (parts of Orange County) if that the most efficient route.
After leaving multiple voice messages, I'm willing to show up anyway at the borrower's door at our scheduled appt time - even calling to let them know I'm on my way. In my signing career, that has happened about 30% of the time. I usually get a return call. For those borrowers that don't bother to call me back, when I arrive, they're waiting and mention that they received my messages. My first thought is "WELL?!?!?!?, why didn't you return my calls?" But instead I let it go.

Agree with Susan... Also seems this happens more in summer...people have disappeared for the weekend but really are available for the signing appointment on Monday.

If I am unable to reach BO, I call the SS or TC and ask if I should still go to appointment, and find out what pay policy is if they don't show. Sometimes it is full pay, other times they say half, or 50, or whatever. Depending on where the signing is, I make my decision of whether to go or not depending on the pay policy for no show.

Don't ask...tell 'em your policy
That's always worked for me.
