First I’d head north; second if you want to become a NY notary I’d check with the New York Secretary of State about Notary Public commission requirements, third I’d contact the local title companies in the area you wish to relocate, and send them your résumé, and see if they need your help.

Les has the best advice. And...remember...a closing is a closing is a closing, regardless of which state.

***a closing is a closing is a closing, regardless of which state***
You've never done one of those 270-page NY CEMA closings, have you, Lee?
I'd suggest you ask Mike Coticchio (MikeC/TX) for his suggestions; he just moved to Texas from New York. He doesn't link, but you can PM him by calling up Message #427764 and doing a private reply to that message.

The market is pretty inundated in my area...Northern NJ
There are 35 notaries within a 14.5 mile radius and that's only from this site.
If you'd like to get an idea of whether it's worth it for you, I might suggest you go to the "Find a Notary" tab and put in the zip code you are moving to.

That's true. But some experience is better than none at all.
The basics don't change...and stuff is always being added or changed. Easier to pick up the differences than start from scratch.

Oh geesh, I thought you were talking about NSA work...
sorry. Misunderstood. I think you're referring to title work, not NSA work, am I right about that?

Are you looking to do loan closings or title work? It depends on where you are going to be in NY, because real estate is done differently in the NYC/LI/Westchester County area than in the rest of the state. I used to be on Long Island and also held a real estate license, so I'm very familiar with the way things work there.
Send me a PM and let me know what you are looking to do and where you will be going, and I'll try to help you out.
