Whoops...OC is an extremely saturated market. You need to do

What we all did. Research and research and once you have done that you will be able to answer your own question.

EOM is this week.

All the notaries with the established clientele will be swamped and turning down work. A new notary with NO experience is better than no notary at all. If your phone is in the database, they just might call you.

I agree with Cynthia

Also be ready to shelf any other plans you have for that day and be ready to go with little or no notice. That will get you repeat calls if you do a competent job.

PS. This is not a business for someone who likes a well ordered, structured life. Most everything is last minute. Evidenced by my being on the computer, all dressed and ready to go at 7:23 for an 8 am signing and still no docs!

Re: I agree with Cynthia

HA HA....story of our lives, right! Dressed up and nowhere to go cuz docs aren't here. Waiting on Chase docs for a signing that was supposed to occur last Friday, no wait, Monday, no Tuesday, now for TODAY. Not holding my breath!

That's our biz! Take it or leave it, the nature of the beast. I got docs for a signing today at 2pm, and the borrowers name is misprinted in every signature block. The DOC PREPARER made a huge mistake, and we're hoping to correct it by 2pm today. They are downtown SF. Hoping for the best.

Re: Whoops...OC is an extremely saturated market. You need to do

There aren't any saturated markets in CA.

We have approx 162-163,00 notaries in CA for 37 million population.

I am in the worst area in CA (Inland Empire) and I had 9 calls (today) to do loan signings and
4 calls for general notary work.

If you are not getting assignments as a CA notary/ loan signer; you need to market yourself better.

Florida, for example, has approx 400,000 notaries with a population of approx 19 million and then there are other states like Texas.

Re: Whoops...OC is an extremely saturated market. You need to do

Agree, if you're not getting calls, it's because someone else is marketing themselves better, more effectively, than you are. We are in a hot bed of refinancing, short sales, REO sales and purchase and sales. The market is robust in most areas of California.

Also, there are many notaries who are no longer in the running because they did not have any success in this arena due to ineffective marketing of their loan signing services.

On to other work. Perhaps taking part or full time work.

This endeavor takes strong marketing skills and TAKING THE PLUNGE!

Joan, I'm not sure that that's fair...you are very well

established. This is the EOM so it's no wonder you're getting so many calls. I've had to turn down numerous requests too. But we are at the top of their lists because they know us and our work. Of course we are going to get those calls first.

Just because there are 37 million people doesn't mean that there is that much work and if they are spread out between so many established and new notaries, that's not saying much.

If you were in an MLM business, you could account for the mass population because it is products as opposed to services that would be marketed, but this is a nitch/service that 37 million people will not be so apt to need; and minus the GN work, its an even smaller group.

You are a veteran NSA. I don't mean to contradict you, but if a newbie comes on here expecting to all of a sudden start getting business, we all know it just doesn't happen like that.

You are right in-and I absolutely, unequvically agree-that networking & marketing is crucial-and is the only way to be successful in this business-but to see those comparisons just kind of struck me funny.

All due respect and no disrespect intended! We don't hear from you much! Miss ya! Thanks for sharing! xo

Re: Go through Signing Central and market yourself to

all of the 4 star and above signing services and title companies. Do not be discouraged. It does take time to build your business. When you finally do get some signings, be extremely diligent and triple check your work. That is the only way that you will get repeat business. Good luck!

How are you handling advertising? There are 3 top

listing sites & NR is one of them. Unless you're paying for listings, your name will appear way down on the list & you'll never get a call.
From my experience money spent on listings on the top sites pays for itself many times over.

Re: How are you handling advertising? There are 3 top

I have very mixed feelings about the coffee site. Someone can be located 40 miles away from you and if they list your zip code as one of their service areas, and if their last name appears earlier than yours in the alphabet, then they will appear above you in your own zip code, even though they are really 40 miles away.

That site has also allowed a particular signing service to manipulate its listings such that it lists the name of a purported notary beginning with "A" or "B" in a wide swath of various zip codes, but all their listings contain the same phone number for the signing service. I requested information about the purported notary listed in my area, from the Virginia Secretary of the Commonwealth - I was trying to determine if the person in the listing was a real notary or a real person. The Virginia SOC told me that no notary by that name existed. All this info was given to the cofee site owner, but he did nothing. My four year listing there expires next month and I plan to just take the free listing there.

Yes, Linda. I am familiar with that particular issue we

have with that notary that advertises all over the state. No one seems to care. The nos. site sold her #1 spot in many areas, as well. :-(

I didn't know that, but am not surprised. Perhaps all that money spent on advertising is why she offers such paltry fees to the notaries she hires. Well that, and the fact that she bids her jobs at the same fee or less than what I charge, and she in turn offers an even lower fee to the notary that does the job.

A notary in PA has told me that this particular SS has done the same thing in her area.

We know she's taken unfair advantage of the sites. She's

operating an ss, and we know it. I continue to advertise, because I'll let her & her "associates" take the low-paying work. I'm still ok.

Re: We know she's taken unfair advantage of the sites. She's

Hands down, I get more calls from a paid listing on this site than anywhere and they are not signing services, they are good title companies/law firms.
