how to advertize?
Hi, folks. I'am new to this, so do not know much... Just got NSA certificate few days ago. Heard it's possible to make some extra $$$ on this one. But I also heard, that you need to be advertized, so the clients will know you exist. I heard about free sites where one can post. Can anyone help me, just give me the names of those sites, please? Also, what about other means of advertizing? Anybody have any ideas? Please, share. Thank you very much. Michael Zimlin, NYC.

Welcome, Michael. You will find that there isn't a lot of patience with newbies. While you say you got your NSA certificate (assuming you probably got involved with NNA), you will find you have a lot more to learn before you begin doing signings. I suggest you follow this forum & read, read, read. As far as advertising is concerned, most of the free sites are a waste of time. There are a couple of major listing sites, this being one, but they all have a price. Yes, there are free listings--but it will put you at the bottom of the list & you won't get any calls anyway. BTW, your profile on this site is valuable advertising real estate. Be sure to treat it as such, and offer as much info as you can. It's where tc's & ss search for notaries in any given area. Good luck & be prepared to build a business.

OMG a Real? answer
OK I want to be good, so here I go.
Go to SS, (Signing Central) the tab at the top of the screen, and sign on to the 4 star and 5 star rated ss's. Use the Orange button, Search, and find out the questions asked before about the subject, just as it said to do when you where posting.
I did not say anything about a Chicken suit. I have blood coming from my lip, I did not chastise for not reading the screen befor posting a question, I was not a Smart AZZ, ( well until now), about my answer, and I tried to use long words!!! Do I get an ATTA BOY, Or do the Haters just a keep on a coming?
That being said... WTF are you in Business for if you do not know how to run one? Take a small business class at the local adult ed, or school of your choice. Learn how to hustle, not the dance, and get busy! Asking us to help you become our competitor is, If you think about it, a bit nuts. Some folks will help you take business away from others, and some will not. Don't get me wrong, I hope you do well, but this is not a business class, so learn business, then come back and ask about this one.
OK Not Rot, now let me have it!!! LOL

I suggest checking your spelling before you start advertising. "Advertize" is not the correct spelling "advertise" is. Proof reading is important in any advertising you plan to do.

Yes, you can make some extra money doing this, but only if you go after it. Don't expect it to come to you. Some of the folks who sell the how-to classes and certifications make it look easier than it is because they want people to buy what they're selling. This is also a competitive business in most markets, so don't expect others to hand over their business plans - which includes how they market and who their customers are.
Next, once you've completed your certification, it doesn't mean you know know everything you need to know to do this business. It just means you've been exposed to enough basics so the real learning can begin. That learning curve never ends because things change and every different entity in this business has their own ideas of how things should be done. I've been doing this for nearly 10 years and I still learn new things all the time.
Finally, please keep in mind that facilitating someone's loan signing involves a great deal of money and usually one of the largest transactions people ever make in their lives, so it's not something to be taken lightly. Mistakes can have expensive consequences.
I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but a dose of reality early on can save you a lot of grief down the road, if you take it to heart. Reading this forum regularly will be one of your best teachers. I suggest you become familiar with the orange Search button at the top of the main forum page. A good place to start is message #33325. Some of it is dated info, but there's a wealth of info available there and you should read the whole thing - preferably multiple times. And before you ask a question here, do a search. Almost everything you can think of has been asked and answered multiple times.
Best of luck to you!

Michael: There are 3 main notary boards for you to advertise your services, all with varying degrees of fees. All will give you free space, but placement can be critical depending upon how many other experienced notaries are in your area. This one is very highly rated. You need to go to your profile and make some adjustments. This is your advertising space - your place to tell people who are looking for your services why they should call you. what makes you special and stand out from the crowd. Speaking another language is a big plus. Is Russian your native tongue?
For me to tell you the other two sites is competing with this one, so I will pass on that for now as a courtesy to Harry, owner of this one. I do think that learning this site, learning how it works, and how to use it to your best advantage would be a big plus for you.
Reading a lot will help. I suggest you start at Msg #33325 as Janet suggested. Some is outdated, but you will figure that out. It is long, but you have the time to learn. This career choice is a constant learning experience, as is any job. I think you should also read here daily. You will accomplish much doing so - who to stay away from as well as who is good for you to reach out to with your qualifications.
Learn to use the orange search button. If there is a question you have, it probably has been answered before. Searching first before just asking shows you have initiative, making others aware that you searched for the answers but not sure of what you found brings you up a notch in our estimations. Searching on your own is important.
Good luck to you.

Advertising/New Business, etc.
Would it be amiss to suggest a simple "Newbie Begin Here First" tab Or FAQS to help nullify some of the nonsense? My notary instructor gave us insight beforehand about the REAL purpose of such forums as NR, and she went even further to explain what "Signing Central" was; with my better than avg intelligence level, I may not have been able to figure it own on my own!
Perhaps, some Pre-screening is in order. I really prefer learning from "the best of the best" in here. The LOL (also "let on the loose") notaries shouldn't be indulged as much . . . IMO

OH, what about adding "RECOMMENDED" under "Find a Notary Class" in Notary Public 101?

Assuming, newcomers get the Search function . . . "New Notary" Wealth of Info!
(Another idea: search notaries with your zip code, read their profiles, and see what they're doing to get noticed. Who was it that said, "imitation is the best flattery!)

No, No, NO! Please don't copy...
As one who has had their entire profile here copied nearly word for word (and I think I didn't realize it for almost a year!), this is something that hits a nerve for me. By all means, get some ideas from other people's profiles, but I think it's the worst idea to imitate your competitors! Don't "imitate" anyone else, either. You can get ideas, like I said, but each person some come up with something that is uniquely theirs.
Trust me, flattery was not the emotion I was feeling when I found out I had been plagiarized by a neighbor who was competing with me directly - in a very saturated market!

Re: No, No, NO! Please don't copy...
I also discovered a competing notary that had copied content from my website, word for word. I have copyright notices and Do Not Copy warnings on my website, which they ignored.
I sent a strong Cease and Desist notice to the notary and their web host provider for copyright infringement. The website was then shut down and no longer exists. Yeah! You can use CopyScape free plagiarism detector to find those copycats.
