After almost a decade in this biz, I've only been asked
-once- if I were certified. I truthfully answered "No." The reply?
"Good. I have a refi in..."
This is offered in the spirit of the benefits of hard research/study in a new field, versus teaching-for-the-test certification" companies. I started with my state's SOS (Secretary of State) Notary Handbook, and went from there.
Best of luck.

After reading Linda's post, I'm confused - I assumed you
were new to this. My apologies if I missed the boat.

Seriously??
"Introduction and Experience I've been in the title industry since 1989!! I'm hoping to develop long lasting working relationships! I'm very familiar with settlement statement, closing statements, HUD1 and most documents. I started in the title industry the summer of 1989 "
If this opening statement to your profile is true about your experience, you could TEACH the certification classes yourself. If you have done this consistently since 1989, there's not a thing a cert class can teach you...just make sure you keep your qualifications up front and out there in your profiles....you can teach some of these companies a thing or two.

Re: Should I get certified
I got certified. It didn't seem to matter as far as getting more business. I mainly did it, to increase my knowledge some.
