Change of mind

David Blankenhorn, a national figure in the movement against same-sex marriage, has recanted his opposition, saying “the time has come for me to accept gay marriage and emphasize the good that it can do.”


Mr. Blankenhorn, the founder and president of the Institute for American Values, wrote an influential book that argued against same-sex marriage in 2007, called “The Future of Marriage,” and served as an expert witness against the constitutional challenge to California’s Proposition 8, which limited marriage to heterosexuals.

I for one believe Zana - unlike some others, I don't

think she's ever made this error before - and she apologized immediately and posted in the proper forum.

It happens, Zana.

It's happened to me, it's happened to others of my political persuasion, it's happened to others of greatly different political persuasions. You apologize and move on, and people of good intentions and breadth of spirit accept your apologies.

There are, of course, people whose smallness of spirit is matched only by the narrowness of their minds who won't accept your apologies. In those cases, you simply ignore them and consign them to the rank confines that the walls of their biases have built around them.

Those of us who are mortal, and who do not focus relentlessly on our own rectitude, can be distracted and thus occasionally err.

Others of us who are of a greatly different order and who are incapable of error are always quick to point out when others transgress. It is a measure of how pure white they are that they are unable even to acknowledge others sincere regrets.

There is a special section of Heaven reserved for such people, a section where for all eternity they will be quarantined from the rest of those who sometimes fell into error. There, they will remain undirtied by any failing, unsullied by any compassion, undiminished by any of the lesser human human emotions like understanding, empathy, grace, kindness or mercy; and where they will devote all of their time to contemplating how upright and righteous they are.

Just like they lived here on Earth.

My guess is that most of us who have been around this water cooler for a good long time (like Stamper_WI) sometimes think of this site as a form of recreation and don't pay as close attention as we would to a set of loan docs...

I read, post, read, sometimes post, in between doing other things. I don't go to either of the other forums here very often, but I can imagine it being very easy to get them mixed up.
