Closing Instructions

Just received closing instructions from a title co. to please not smell offensive and not to bring any family members to the closing. Sad, sad, sad and yikes.

Wow, they must have people not showering and taking (kids probably). I have never done that. I would turn back a signing if I didn't have a babysitter. And never any excuse to take the husband. I don't get people sometimes. I go to signings solo, After showering of course. Lol. Some people just amaze me.

We live out in the boonies here - when I first started

down here in FL I took my husband with me on my nighttime closings - two sets of eyes could find these remote places a whole lot easier than one - but the hiring party AND the borrowers were aware he'd be with me.

Now I only take him with me when a second witness is required - like I said the boonies - spaces so far apart down here you can be lifetime neighbors and never see them. So when signers say they have NO ONE who can witness, I have to believe them - and on their approval and the hiring party's okay I still bring him - but as a witness now he gets paid... Smile

That is different tho, you had permission. And if witnesses are required, that is totally different. Here, we don't need witnesses. At least for pa properties. I have had a couple signings for out of state homes, where I needed witnesses, But the borrowers provided them, If they didn't have both witnesses, I would have had husband go with me.

I didn't think you could notarize your spouses signature in Florida

Far, far more amazing ...

... is that a title company or signing service would actually send out such instructions. Were I running that company, I would be mortally embarrassed to admit that I had actually hired someone who did not have the social skills to know what a deodorant stick or a bar of soap is. It is a dead giveaway that the company does not vet signing agents for professionalism, but only for price.

What a bleak commentary on our business! The next thing you know, they'll be hiring retired lawyers to handle remote closings. And then you all better start looking for jobs at Wal-Mart, because the business is going to hell in a handbasket.

If the someone - be it spouse or friend - rides along for safety reasons (it's late or the location is remote) or is the driver and stays in the car, I don't see why that's a problem. My hubby has come with me to one or two signings and sat in the car. He has water/snacks, his Ipod, cell phone, my business card and a copy of the confirmation of the loan signing if someone calls the police to report a suspicious man sitting in the car for a long time in "their neighborhood".
