I notarized in purple??

Today I received a reprimand (more like an accusation) that I notarized an affidavit in a "set" of documents in purple. Wow. What can I say. Well I don't own a purple pen. Why would I change pens in the middle of a signing to notarize one document in purple? Can I have a little more information? But then, should I be paranoid that someone is out to get me, why would this happen?

I do, however, save docs that have been emailed to me, for a "reasonable" amount of time just in case there is an "issue" after the siging. I looked at the docs and see ther are several docs such as Contractors affidavits notarized by other notaries. Can this be a clue?

By the way I use (always) Foray Blue Ballpoint .07 mm pens purchased from Office Depot....Always..

To be continued.....

Blue ink (especially the cheap stuff) can turn purple in the heat... though I doubt that's what happened.

I'd demand that they send you a copy of it (in color) to prove it.

I did. And ok if it turned purple.. but only one page? I use a blue ball point as described forever.... Not mine... Or prove it... Right?

agree with Marian and Linda here...you want proof

especially if they are going to NOT pay you your entire fee for this mistake that obviously someone else did and/or are going to attempt to black ball you or ruin your good name!

There's a huge TC here in Chicago, that does have on staff, numerous robo notaries on stand by to do just that Linda, to step in and um, "correct" nsa's mistakes on loan documents even though they're not supposed to do this.

I bet money that this is what happened here...

Re: agree with Marian and Linda here...you want proof

I have already been paid. And I have asked for proof. Only concerned about reputation. Like I said I know what pens I "always" use. Who changes pens to notarize "one" document? Where would I get a purple pen?

Here is the kicker. This signing was the beginning of June by the way. I always save my downloaded doc files for about a month on my computer. So I looked and sure enough I have not deleted the docs yet. In the docs there are two contractor affidavits notarized by other notaries... Hmmmm... Maybe somebody should at least check that out.

I have asked to see the document.

"should I be paranoid that someone is out to get me,"

I know I'd be wondering - if they read your name on the cert and it's in purple, and you didn't SIGN in purple, did someone pull a fast one? Probably not but I have a suspicious nature like that.

I'd definitely be asking to have the original document returned to me - and I'd most definitely be pushing to clear myself if they made a mistake.

The document in question was never identified.

This is a long shot ...

... but Utah notaries are required to use purple ink in their seals. Were these affs done in Utah? And somehow the receiving agency decided they didn't like a purple seal? BTW, I also use purple ink for my stamp... and haven't had any compaints ... (yet).

I wonder if they're looking at a scan that has a funny color

Some scanners do funny color adjustments.

Perhaps they're looking at the scan and not the original page?

I agree. I have two models of pens that I carry, one has blue ink, one black. They are in separate places in my bag. I never buy or use another pen for precisely that reason.

Thank for all the input

Still think this is an error on the part of the TC. There was a couple of pre-existing affidavits in the doc package when I received it as I stated. I think that may be where the problem lies. My big issue is that they did not think this through and just threw out blame on me without any investigation. I have been in contact and NOW they are looking into it further. I have proof of what I say... This to me is just very upsetting because it is a serious matter and accusation. Again, one more reason I hold doc files. This happened over 3 weeks ago. Really? Just noticing this now? Something crazy.

We shall see. Thanks again for the input.
