Just got my Square from squareup.com
It's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I downloaded app, put it in my phone. Slid my credit card. Charged myself $10. Signed with my finger. Receipt appeared immediately. $10 (less the $.28) will be deposited to my account tomorrow.

I have had my square for several months and it works great. An important concept is to use other peoples's credit cards

I found that a $10 stylus pen is really usefull for the customer to sign and send the the receipt back to his/her email address or phone number.
I have used Square for over 4 months and love it.

Mine arrived today - haven't tried it, but happy to know
that it works great. Can I use your card to test it? You know, just to be sure?
Aw, c'mon!

Now that I have given it a successful test run....1 Q
How do you plan to carry this about so that you don't lose or damage it?

I use GoPayment from /intuit/Quicken. It came with a small hard plastic ing case that fits easily in my notary bag in a zippered compartment.

The one mine came with just attaches to my keys and when I need it, I pull off the adapter, stick it on my phone and go. The only downside to it is when I'm in an area without a proper data signal, which can be a problem out my way.

I have used mine for over a year and it is perfect. I bought a key chain flash drive case and it fits perfectly. I carry my square on my key chain so I always have it with me.

Re: Love my SQUARE!!!!! So convenient and neat.
Hi I also have this & it is a great feature. But watch OUT! Yoou will get a 1099 for all the amounts you charge this way. & you need to claim this on your taxes if you fill out a Schedule C. Walt

Well, of COURSE you have to report it...
it's income. You have to report your income on your income taxes.

If it is income, that's great!
But, WTH? How do they know it is actually 1099 income?

So what's the issue?....
You have a business, you make money, you report all your income on your tax return!!! It's the American Way!

Re: So what's the issue?....
The issue its that square may be used for personal reasons. Example...if I had Square up when I collected money for Paul, some would have been able to use CCs. I am involved in a class reunion..that was going to be one of our methods of payment. Same with any number of collection for group projects that I do.
I need to go read fine print now. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: So what's the issue?....
It's hard to imagine a notary doing so much card-present business with one company, using Square up, that the company would send a 1099. But if that did happen, the notary would have two 1099s for the same income.

Re: So what's the issue?....
I use mine for several organizations that I belong to. I set them up with their own accounts. When you log into Square on your phone just make sure that you log into the correct account.

Paypal is about to launch a similar service as Square.

Paypal now offers a similar service
I've had sqareup for about a year and really love it, but I see that Paypal offers a similar service (and gadget). The transaction fee is one tenth of one percent lower on Paypal. (at least it was, last time I checked).
