Keeping Docs in Order

I have been following the posts regarding the page separator issue. Many had posts that said they returned the docs not in the same order as received and had no repercussions.
Just curious if any of you have returned docs to FASS (First American Signature Svcs) that were NOT in the same order as received. If so, did you get marked down?

I have a signing with them Monday and have not received the docs to know what they consist of (legal vs. regular). Their confirmation states, "When printing the package the CHOOSE PAPER SOURCE BY PDF PAGE SIZE printer selection option." I am still working on getting my printer (HL-5370DW-dual tray) to function accordingly.

Appreciate your responses.

Clarification: when I said ". . . did you get marked down" I was referring to their point system - "Quality Issues." Thanks.

Keep your dogs in order, Karla.

If you don't they learn bad habits like jumping on people or pulling at their leashes.

Oh...wait...you said "docs." I read it to say, "dogs."

Never mind.

In your 'printer preferences', or something like that,

check that choice: paper source: by PDF page size...

But, before that will work, on your printer's set-up, set your printer Tray 1 = letter, Tray 2 = legal, and if it asks for the third? Usually that's not a tray, but the "slot" for envelopes, etc. so, I can't remember...leave un-set? Anyway, sometimes, if a page in the middle of a stack is scanned funny, or a slightly off-size - you can switch to the hand-feed slot, and that odd page will print.

Did you mean HP? I've got the HP2430dn. 3 'trays'. I use tray 2 (drawer) for let, and tray 3 (biggest drawer/tray, on the bottom.) Tray 1 is the flip down on the top front to add the size paper for those stubborn pages that for one reason or another won't print out of #s 2 & 3.

Clear as mud?

Re: In your 'printer preferences', or something like that,

Hi Susan~ Hubby and I just had the Geek Squad people on the phone since we couldn't get the printer to recognize anything but the upper (8.5x11) tray. (We purchased the Geek Squad help source as this is our first MAC). They could not figure out the issue, so we are going to have to have them come out to figure this printer issue out.

After we hung up with them, we discovered if we reverse the trays positions and put tray 2 on top with legal paper that it works. So, I am either going to have to print all docs on legal (and hope FASS accepts them) or make a list and print (as indicated in message #381210).

Thanks for your input Susan!

You are using a Mac instead of a PC?

Re: In your 'printer preferences', or something like that,

Yes, Julianne, we let our friends talk us into a MAC this time. They (husband and wife) have individual MACs and use them for their two businesses and personal. They both swear by them and said MACs have less virus issues, etc., etc., etc. I am not a happy camper!!! I don't find it to be as user friendly as my PC was. To get to the site for FASS, I have to use Firefox vs. MAC's Safari browser! UGH!

if not too late, take back the mac! I bought one

after spending hours at the Apple store with the "experts" and doing much searching on the net, including here, I learned Adobe for Mac does not support choosing by pdf size. Story I got was that Adobe and Apple, or more specifically Steve Jobs, had a big disagreement on terms several years ago so Adobe said "screw you to Jobs" and did not fully develope Adobe for Mac as it has for pc's.
btw this was only 6 months ago, so unless there has been a change this year you are likely going to come up to a dead end. there is the option of running Windows for Mac but I was not interested in making my Mac become a pc and then there was still no guarantee that it would work.
good luck!

Thanks Donna~ that was a real eye opener for me! Not a pretty picture is it? I am going to have my hubby read your post and see what he says. I know he will not do the take back though. :O(
Thanks again.

There might be work arounds. I know that this issue has

been discussed here before and am thinking that Glenn Strickler was in on that conversation. He knows tons about it to make it worth searching. Don't panic....search.

My work around would be

Enjoy the MAC. It will probably last forever.

Purchase a cheap refurb PC laptop or desktop to run nothing but business and Adobe.

That is just so sensible, Brenda - makes perfect sense.

Business only - probably pick up cheap computer brand new for under $300. Build own, less.

Your FASS Question

Hi Karla....

I've worked for FASS for a number of years now and have never received a "quality issue" for not returning the docs in their original order. There's a certain order I like putting my docs in when doing closings in case there are questions about the terms that can be immediately addressed if necessary (a trick I learned right here from NR). After those documents are OK, the closing is pretty much smooth sailing.

The important thing, of course, is to return ALL the documents, properly executed and notarized.

Hope that helps.

Re: Your FASS Question

Hi Kay . . . that's a relief to know that FASS has not 'dinged' you for docs out of order. I like your reasoning and choice in presenting key docs to the BO immediately.

Have you ever returned docs ALL on legal size to them?

I am almost compulsive in checking and re-checking for . . . "properly executed and notarized" docs. Have not had any errors that way so far.

Thanks.

Karla

Re: Your FASS Question

Until I finally got a dual tray printer early last year, I was printing all closing documents on legal-sized paper, including ones for FASS, without any issue.

The confirmation sheet and/or instructions may even say to print everything on legal size paper if you do not have a dual tray printer, so do double check.

I don't work for FASS, so I can't answer that specific

question. I will tell you that I NEVER keep the docs in the order received. I ALWAYS put the docs in a signing order: HUD, payment letter, Note, DOT, TIL, RTC, etc., & always put title docs at the rear of the pkg. I have NEVER had a single complaint about doing that. My take has always been that's it their docs but my signing procedure.
I know there are many notaries that "print & run", meaning they wouldn't take the extra time to put the docs in a signing order. One advantage is that I also always know if everything is there.
BTW, I received an overnight pkg. the other day. If I had kept those docs in that order it would have made for a confusing signing.

stacking order

I receive instructions quite often asking that documents be returned in stacking order. I never do that.

Generally speaking the escrow officer knows the proper stack order for returning the documents to the lender for funding. We have several escrow officers that separate the docs into two scans: one letter and one legal size. I see no big deal in using page separator and printing that way.

We have never had anyone come back at us when docs are returned in an order different than the original stock order.

The only real printing issue is when NSAs print everything to legal size pages, even when they get two pdf files; one for each size.
