Scammed on GNW Assignment!
I had a call from a very nice young woman who asked me to meet her at her commercial business building to notarize a subordination agreement. There would be 25 signatures, she wanted to allow three hours, from noon to three, to get to everyone. Said I thought two hours would be sufficient. The fee: $10 per signature, $30 travel fee since it was within one mile of my previous appointment.
She's 15 minutes late, only five people are available. She wanted me to wait for two more signers in an hour, and I told her this fell very short of the scope of work she described to me two days before. My minimum for this work is $100 per hour. I left, and suggested these people take their documents to notaries at their banks, UPS store, WETHEPEOPLE, etc. since these tenants seemed unwilling to be available at the appointed, specified time she tried to orchestrate.
Turns out her boss is one of the biggest crooks in town. He came to one of my auction sales and offered me $800K for a $1.5mil property I was auctioning off. Bernie, you don't negotiate with these banks at the sale, I told him. Always trying to get something for nothing.
I left and had a shrimp salad at a nearby restaurant. This may be more what I call "experience is what you get when you don't get paid."
