UPS shipping labels
I haven't had much experience with printing UPS shipping labels. Lets say I trust the recipient and am not worried about getting charged when the recipient doesn't pay. If I try to create a label on-line, and bill the recipient (and enter the recipient's account number) it says that the rate will be the retail rate. I know many shippers have negotiated much lower rates than little guys get. So if I print a label on the computer, is this causing the recipient to pay more than if I use a hand-written label?

Probably not, When I ship on my husband's corporate account it shows retail but they are billed the adjusted rate.

Huge hassles with UPS lately
I've been doing handwritten waybills for a while for UPS for ServiceLink packages.
On all but one in the lst few months, UPS has back-charged me because they say they didn't get the original shipping document (the heck they didn't... I watched them scan it). They re-charge it back to Service Link after I call accounting, but it's been hours of time on the phone all told.
I'm going to figure out how to make an online label because this is outrageous!!
It should be noted: I NEVER include my UPS account number on the waybill--they're ignoring the stated billing account, and looking up mine.
I understand one way to do this is to put the receiver in both sender/receiver but the UPS shop that I drop docs in doesn't accept them this way.
Not sure how helpful that is, but unless you enjoy accounting messes, I'd avoid UPS's hand-written waybill option.

Get a receipt for the shipment. I do not ship via UPS or FEDEX without getting a receipt. I use the vendors account number as the billing account and never have had a problem. If your location will not give a receipt, change locations.

Ditto!
I always go to my nearest UPS or FedEx store, have them check the account, and get a receipt. I have NEVER had a problem. Yes it takes a bit longer than using a drop box, but in my estimation it's time well spent. (Plus I can prove when and where I dropped the package)

My daughter, Saxy, is 42 now
Her best friend in high school was a young fellow named Nolan. Nolan joined the paratroopers and served eight years, then came back to College Station, got his degree at A&M, went to work for the university, married, and had four boys.
Two years ago, his wife went to New England to visit her great-grandmother, and killed her self with an overdose. Six months later, Nolan died from a heart attack. He was 40. His sons were something like 15 to 7. They are boys that any parent could be proud of.
The grandmother came to College Station, stayed for about six months while she closed out his estate, sold the house, etc., then moved back to Colorado, where she and the boys have been since.
You may see where this story is heading. Yesterday, their home was destroyed by the forest fire. There is nothing left. The boys managed to grab a few memories of their parents before they evacuated.
I'm not a praying sort, so I'm not going to ask for your prayers for those four kids. But do keep them in your thoughts. And let us all ferevently hope that none of our NotRot family is impacted by the fires.
A video of the boys is up on the home page of CNN.com.

Thank you, Hugh. I had not heard about this latest
turn of events. KBTX will undoubtedly pick up the story and reconvene local (here) efforts to support the family. I sent them the information. The B/CS community pulled together then to help financially and to get the house sold and the children moved and they will now.

Sorry to hear that. A lot of people just to the south of me are not sleeping in their homes tonight. I have a friend that has a sister and family, and parents both lose their homes. Ten people living in a two bedroom condo, but better than being in a shelter somewhere.

Re: Huge hassles with UPS lately
I never thought about putting the receiver in both the sender/receiver lines! THANK YOU! Good tip! FYI, I received an email from ServiceLink about 2 weeks ago that said if you wanted them to print the labels and ship them out to you, they would (I think this might just be for BofA team though) I replyed back and they sent me a ton of preprinted labels
Another tip on UPS, if you are going to print labels via online, Google Chrome won't let you print them. You have to generate the label, then go back into your "shipped" packages and choose the print option from there. I spent 45 min. on the phone with UPS about that one...hopefully that saves some of you some time

I did a hand written label for Fed Ex a while back.
I put the recievers acct # on it and got a bill for it. I called and was told the acct # was on the hand bill and it would be reversed. I got another bill and called again, again I was told the charges would be reversed. I got another bill and called again and again I was told the charges would be reversed.
The other day I got a bill from a collection agency. I'm not going to pay, it is the TC responsibility.

Buddy do you have a Fedex account rep?
I had trouble with that a long time ago with Fedex handwritten bills but it's never happened again after I gave my account rep a call.

Short answer - no
Rate depends on the shipper's account number and their shipping volume.
