1099's
Received a 1099 from ServiceLink that is several thousands dollars more than it should be. Left a message for the bookkeeper, no response. Any one else with this experience, and how did you handle it?

Servicelink did not send out checks in December 2010. So November and December closings were paid in January 2011.

ServiceLinks accounting system could be on an accrual basis. This could cause the 1099 to be larger than what you have received. If you had monies coming to you before the end of the year, but they are not paying until after the end of the year, that could explain it (clear as fog, right).
My suggestion would be to request a new 1099 with an itemized listing of what they claim they have paid you.
If all fails, report to the IRS what you were actually paid, no matter what their1099 says.
Any questions, please PM me.
Hope this helps.

Call the IRS. They can tell you how to offset the incorrect amount of the 1099 and how to note the record the error on your return. ServiceLink sent me a 1099 with an incorrect dollar amount in February this year for work performed in 2010.

The work may have been performed in 2010 but if you were paid in 2011 then it's taxable income for 2011.

Work was performed in 2010 but was paid in 2011. Received the 1099 in 2012 (late). The amount on the 1099 was wrong.
