Chapped fingers

I have this new theory that my super-duper chapped, awful dry skin on the tips of my thumbs and index fingers, which defies all but the most aggressive skin balm treatment, is the result of thumbing through endless stacks of loan documents over the years. Anyone experience what I am now dubbing "NSA Dry Finger Syndrome"?

You are correct, working with copy paper pulls the moisture right out of your fingers/hands

I use SortQuik which must protect my fingers because I have not had chapped dry fingertips. There are a couple of different brands but both Staples and Office Depot carry the products and it makes things so much easier.

Gett some UTTER CREAM and wear cotton gloves to bed for awhile. This cold, dry weather doesn't help the dilemma. Paper sucks all the moisture from your hands/fingers.

I use a rubber finger.

Somebody gave me one when I was a newbie. I have been using one ever since! LOL!

No, but I DO have "Paralegal Dry Finger Syndrome"

I use generic Sort-Quick. It is like a pink finger balm. Keep a thing of it on my desk and use it all the time.

I just became a Live Scan private service provider, and I learned something very interesting. My vendor & the gentleman that gave me my training told me two of the harshest materials for your hands are paper and the chemicals used to develop photographs. That would explain why my hands are always so dry; I handle paper at work, at home, and with my side business. Udderly Smooth really does help, and something called Cornhusker's Lotion works wonders as well. And if all else fails...vaseline. If you put it on your hands at night and wear gloves (or even soft, clean socks) your hands recover quickly. If you can stand the slimy feeling. Smile

Funny you should mention that, Priscilla. I started putting gobs of Vaseline on my fingertips at night and then gloves but that was too messy- so now I use plastic bags! That way I can hold a book or use the TV remote without getting goo everywhere. I look like an idiot, but it seems to be the only thing that works. I also take advantage of driving time by gooping up and then putting on gloves so by the time I get to the borrowers my finger tips don't look like the dust bowl.

Thanks everybody - I'm definitely going to buy the pink stuff and try the other cream/lotion too!

Call me paranoid, but when this first appeared, I thought it might be some sort of yukky skin disorder I'd picked up from the pens that borrowers use. So I started wiping them down - the pens not the borrowers - with antiseptic wipes, which I still do occasionally. Ya never know!

Some of the borrowers I've met could use a good wiping down as well. LOL

I have something even better ya'll...

As Shoshana mentioned, I too use the "fingertips." But I found some really cool ones. They're called:

"Lee TippiŽ Micro-Gel Fingertip Grips; Size 5, Small, Assorted, 10/Pack"

There are all different sizes. I need the size 3 for my fingertips and 5 for my thumb.

They're great, but rather on the costly side, because they're really soft gel type of fingertips. They're made especially for comfort of bending your fingers (there is an opening where the joint is) and they're open at the topfor long fingernails.

Love, love, love em. Borrowers even like them. They stretch out after a while though.

Check em out.

Those are really cool, but I don't see anything on

Amazon denoting a size.
I'm using the old-style rubber finger tips.
My hands are aging fast with handling so much paper. I think it's the paper-dust.
I don't get too many paper cuts (ouch) but I'm ripping my cuticles up all the time.

Marilyn, I too suffer from dry cracked cuticle skin. Do the solutions offered above help with that, too?

Re: Those are really cool, but I don't see anything on

Try Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream - see the reviews on Amazon and then buy it at Walmart or Target. Costs $5.50 at Walmart - I just started using it a few weeks ago and have been happy with the results so far.
