Gas prices
Notaryland, are you increasing your fee's due to the price in gas increase, and if so, what has your response been?

Gas was about $3/gal Now it about $4/gal Assume an average trip of abut 20 miles each way. Assume car gets 20 mpg. Gas for this assumed signing now costs $2.00 more than it did last year. You have to decide how your customers will react to your requested increase. Lots for factors to be considered. What type of area do you serve,( urban/ rural, suburban) What type of car do you drive. I am trying to combine trips so that I can do back to back as often as possible, so as to avoid deadheading back.

Gas here is getting closer to the $5.00 mark, not there yet, but give it a month or so.

For another aspect to calculating costs, this is a
handy-dandy tool:

Miles per dollar. Whole different perspective.
Enjoy.

I have been trying to add an extra $10 if the closing is more than 15 miles one way to cover the increased cost in gas.
Some companies are okay with it. Recently one scheduler was protesting against it like "boo hoo gas prices are high everywhere" and eventually hung up on me. All I did was explain that reason as to why I was asking for a higher fee was because gas in my area is well over $4.00 a gallon. Sheesh! I refuse let them bully me into accepting an assignment for less.

NJ gas prices now are at last summers peak
I will think about an increase when gas tops the $4.20 mark which should be this June-July right now it's $3.50/gallon. I saw a picture of a CA gas station charging $5.89/gallon. I spend on avg 150/week on gas but I drive a AWD SUV only gets 18/mpg in the city and 20 on the highway. Sure 5 - 10 bucks a shot adds up but it may cost you some business depending on how many people would jump at the chance of new business.
That is why I will wait till prices start to skyrocket closer till summer.

I have had to raise my prices $10. So far so good except for one company. But I know there is competition that isn't raising thier prices. Oh well.....I can't afford charity work and not interested.
