I always thought I could handle this but......
I always thought I could handle this. But you are the lowest man on the totem pole when u r a notary. Nobody cares at all about u. Its discouraging even when business is good.
Any words of wisdom from the board? Thanks.

My best words of wisdom are these: Find another profession. This one is dead. This profession was going down a few years ago; as far as I'm concerned, it's now dead in the water.
I do mobile notary work and in-office notary work (in addition to my tax business) but I don't to signings anymore.

IMO I don't think the profession is dead. We still provide
an important service in the loan industry. If you're looking for glory & pats on the back, this isn't the place for you. You need to be able to handle the fast pace & dealing with pressure. Yes, we are at the end of the food chain & are not really compensated enough for what's involved. Also, IMO there are jobs that are far less appealing than this one. If you enjoy being an independent contractor, setting your own fees, dealing with the public, etc. then this is viable. Remember, we are dealing with a client for a very short period of time and probably won't see them again. I worked in an office for many years & don't miss all the petty politics and back-stabbing that went on. That said, like any other job, I get discouraged & exhausted sometimes (especially EOM) and feeling like quitting from time to time. Otherwise, I'm still making better money that other options would provide. Don't forget about scheduling breaks & vacations!

I hear ya! Signing Companies are to blame! But truth be told that without us they would be in business... We are IMPORTANT to the customer looking for a rush signing, a signing on a SUNDAY, Holiday, or to the Mother whom needs a consent to travel last minute, because she's going out of town the very next day! or the elderly man whom is wheelchair bound and needs a signing , or that customer that doesnt have a car and needs a Mobile Notary ASAP!!! General Notary Work with individuals is the most rewarding @ least for me! Ive dealt with families whose loved one's are in hospice, hospital's, retirement homes, assisted living homes and disabled and are happy to hear "i can come to them" that sets the mood for the entire signing...some customers are so happy and appreciative they often want to pay a TIP which is always nice Someody does care ! Happy signing

noticed some typos on my previous post (1st on this site) I meant to say " wouldn't" instead of "would" on the first sentence and on the last sentence I meant "Somebody" rather than "someody" sorry!!

Yep….Blame those despicable Signing Service Companies! Not only are they to blame for late docs, but now for low fees! It’s not the stupid, greedy, unknowing notaries themselves that accept these low fees that are to blame? Or the NNA that has been churning out so called Notary Signing Agents (to make big bucks part time at home) by the thousands, for years, people that have never seen even one loan document let alone have a clue about the “closing process” and what it takes to do it correctly. Don’t blame the notaries in your area that may be grade school dropouts, or have PhD’s; full time or part time; Housewives trying to make a little extra cash, or those desperate for work, or those that for whatever reason will do a remote closing (however poorly) for $40. It is precisely those people that have ruined this at one time respected position done mostly by professional by people knowledgeable in the lending/title/real estate/law business. Yes! Your fellow notaries are to blame…and NO ONE ELSE! Certainly not the SS’s! Without which many of you would be out of business. If these Horrible SS are to blame, why is it that in Attorney States they pay a lot more for a signing? Why don’t they offer the lawyers $40? Could it be that no Attorney is stupid enough to do the work required of us for that kind of money losing fee? No it’s the SS’s fault! They just LIKE to pay lawyers more. Could it be that many Title companies that at one time, hired only professional experienced NSA’s, and paid $150 to $300 for a remote closing (more or less what they charge for an in office closing) are now offering $70 for the same job? Is it because of the SS? Or maybe because their bosses and accounting people have discovered that there are MANY notaries out there that will do the job for less. They don’t charge the borrower less, they now just PAY less to the SS and Notaries alike, and keep the difference. Anyone that blames the current trend for lower fees paid to us involved in the out-of-office / remote closing business…Notaries AND SS’s alike, on the existence of the Signing Companies, has in my opinion absolutely no understanding at all of this business or how it works. And to post so just shows their lack of knowledge.

It's nice when borrower's blast Title for being lousy and
praise the notary/courtesy closer on the survey form included with the docs. LOL ;>)

Its like this no one likes a but xxx but everyone needs one. A Notary is what makes this work for every one. You have to take the good with the bad and thats with any job you do. Sorry for being so crude.
