I have tried the orange search button.....
need input on acceptable identification.....docs read Juan R. Garcia.....Driver's License, Passport read Juan Garcia Ramirez....Ramirez is mother's maiden name.....I know this practice of putting mother's maiden name on the end is quite common in some cultures.....has paycheck stubs, credit cards, etc. as Juan R. Garcia....feedback, please.

Are you satisfied that they are one and the same person? I think I would be.

yes, I was eventually. just wondered if anyone else had ever had this scenario...and, it came back and was a problem. It's been a long week/month.....never seen so many errors on docs, it seems no one goes over est. clos. stmts. any more with borrs and it's always an issue at the table....just venting.....

Garcia and Ramirez are common names. How did it ever get to be Juan R. Garcia? There had to be something that had that ID at one time or someone somewhere along the line was totally remiss.
I would hesitate here. Why do people do this to themselves?

Sometimes they get bad advice - and sometimes that advice is from the DMV. Other times they're just misinformed about how things are done here.
I've run into this type of situation many times. I can't remember it ever being a problem or a big issue. However, I'd probably ask what the "R" stands for and how it got put in as a middle initial. The outcome could very likely depend on the responses.

Contact the hiring party and make them aware of your concern. Ask if he can sign as Juan Garcia Ramirez aka Juan R. Garcia so that he is also signing the docs with the way his ID reads.
I understand the two surname cultural issue. However, the documents should reflect the ID he using. Otherwise I personally would not sign him. He really should get his IDs changed to reflect the name he's using to avoid these issues.

I would not accept it : Juan G Ramirez is not the same as Juan R. Garcia. I really don't think the notary should be taking on the responsibility/liability for correcting a mistake made by another party, in this case either the signer or the DMV. For me, the possible liability that could result would be more than I would want.

California acceptable ID
"Driver's License, Passport read Juan Garcia Ramirez"
California notary law says acceptable ID is DL/Passport - not loan docs, credit cards or pay stubs. When you notarize his signature on the docs - you are accepting his valid DL as his ID, with whatever name is on his DL.
If the lenders want to fix this, they use a AKA document to clarify the issue. Or they redraw the docs.
The notary law is the one you need to follow, its the one that can get you into much bigger legal issues.
