I like dogs...

...and they are one thing I enjoy about this business.

I have been closing loans for seven years and saw the most unusual one last week...a Jack Russell Terrier and Pit Bull mix. It looked just like a Jack Russell (the kind with wirey hair about an inch long), with no Pit Bull characteristics at all, except it weighed 70 lbs.

Another unusual mix I have seen was Golden Retriever and Bassett Hound. The dog looked just like a Golden Retriever, but with short legs.

I think it is a good idea for people to have their dogs put up when I arrive, but I usually tell people to wait until I am seated and then let the dog(s) out.

I enjoy seeing the dogs and cats and comment on them, but ignore the kids! LOL!

I like dogs also, however after almost getting bit by one on a signing assignment if BO has a canine I want them confined!

The Jack Russel with the wirey hair is the Parson Russel terrier - that's the one I like!! Looks sort of like it needs to fabric softener to control the static electric hair (heehee).

My dog is a Boston Terrier/Chihuahua mix.....she has the complete coat and height of the BT, but physically looks like a Chihuahua. She's a BLEND of the two breeds. What looks weird to me is the mixed dogs where the head is one breed and the body is the other breed. Those look like lab experiments gone wrong. At the pet store, I saw a beagle/bull dog mix. Head was soft and innocent beagle features and thick, stubby bulldog body. Our friends have a golden retriever/dachshund mix. Big golden retriever head and coat with a short, long dachshund body.

Dogs need to be contained when we show up. You never know how they might act with strangers. it's a lot of liability for homeowners.

Recently I was bit on the top of my hand by a five month old Queensland heeler, they are protectorates. The owner of the dog was trying to sell a Yamaha Grand Piano keyboard to me I found on craigslist, but this event certainly killed the desire for me. The guy was asking as much for this 10yr old keyboard as Bestbuy was selling for new, including all his music. The dog sealed the deal, I was outta there to go find a bandage and antifungal wash to clean the wound. No apology. HOW RUDE!

I also think it is good for the dogs to be contained when we show up. After I am seated, if the dog is barking or whining, I tell the BO to let it out if they want to. After a bit of jumping, they usually just settle down and sniff.

I try to practice "Dog Whisperer" techniques. Most of the time it works, and often surprises the BO. Sometimes even try it on the kids.

But, like most of you, especially when going to rural areas, I ask that the animals be confined somewhere away from where we are to sign.
