I stuck to my guns.

I recieved a call for a signing today 30 miles away with 2 hour notice.

It's a SS that I like working for so I quoted a price, $100 for edocs and 50c a mile,, $130

He said " will you do it for $95?"

Huh!!! My price for that job would be $130

He said " we can't go that high."

I guess you will have to call someone elce then.

End of conversation.

I enjoy turning it right back on them. "Come now, why would I want to drive for 30 miles, edocs, copy for the borrower, then back 30 more miles after an hour signing, for under market fee?" Why do they think this is a fair fee, factoring in auto, office supplies, and tax expenses.

They live in their own little greedy world. I would pass on this opportunity too.

Well said. For every one I turn down, there will be a higher fee in a closer location within 12 miles compared to 30 miles

Unfirtunately, that's not always the case...easier to put on paper than to be true in real life....but I would have turned them down too.

Sadly, I don't think that issue even factors into the decision making for some companies. They're just thinking about how little they will have to pay to get it done, and that approach must work to some extent or they'd give it up.

Like you said, they're in their own little greedy world. But thankfully we don't have to live there with them! Smile

The time you spend driving is of no value to you? You bill for the signing time/notarizations/printing and your car's mileage at below IRS standard deduction, but I saw no value placed on your time while driving 60 miles! Interesting--my time is my most valuable 'intangible possession'.

I agree... mileage is one thing, but with long distances, there is a time element that needs to be considered, too. I have that issue, and I charge a premium...I make no apologies for it. I regularly get called to drive to locations 20-50+ miles away, often more. This makes it so that a "full" day of loan signings for me can mean just 2-3 at most because a good portion of my day is spent in my car.

My per mile and area rates includes a time factor for driving not just gas, etc.

BINGO, MARIAN. While I'm driving 30-45 minutes, I may be missing 1-2 other opportunities to earn $100 per file. Absolutely makes no sense to travel like that unless it's the end of the day on the way home.
