Need help on Florida DL

I closed yesterday on a military couple. Both of borrowers are active duty Navy. They both own a house in Wisconsin and closed here. The wife's driver license is Florida and shows that it expired in 2010. She told me that Florida's licenses do not expire for active duty military. I had her give me her current Navy ID so that I had back up if there was any question. Is this true?

Yes that is true in many states that active duty military may drive using their expired license and it is not considered expired for them. HOWEVER the lender can still require them to present an unexpired photo ID for their loan transaction, so you were right to cover your rear by also using the unexpired military ID.

Re: She is wrong unless she has followed the rule

I examined the license to see if it was stamped with an extension. Illinois does this. She did not show me an extension card, so I hope the lender takes it as a secondary form of id with the military as primary. The title co requires two forms of id for the closing.

Thank you Ilene..now I guess my question is

In FL, if faced with an expired ID from a military person who claims he just got out but the extension is still good, so therefore his license is still valid ID, do we ask to see their DD-214 to make sure they're within the 90 days?

Or am I overthinking this? Probably am, especially for me, since I've never run into this problem.

I don't think you are "overthinking" this at all. I would ask for the DD214 as well just to cove myself.

When my brother got out of the service his drivers licence was expired. On his way home he was stopped and issued a citation for an expired drivers licence.

When he went to court he stated to the judge that military has 1 year to renew after discharge frome the military. The judge looked up the law and dismissed the case. So yes it is true.

Every state is different Buddy so each state must be researched.

I think you did the correct thing, and just use the military ID or if they have a passport available, along with the expired DL.
