New Notary

I'm a fairly new notary with mortgage doc experience however I've never notarized a loan document. I know that a lot of companies prefer seasoned notaries. Can anyone recommend ways that I can beef up my business and gain the experience that companies are requiring?

The first thing you can do is fill out your profile here on NR. We don't know anything about you so we are unable to give you any suggestions.

Read Notary Rotary every day.

You will get an idea of what is going on and how to handle things.

Re: Read Notary Rotary every day.

I've been reading the forum for the last few hours and you are right. I've already learned quite a bit. Thank you CJ

If you have mortgage doc experience

market that (if loan signings are what you want to do) - makes you not so much a newbie in the loan arena and you can use that as your strongest selling point.

And yes, complete your profile here - very important.

First and foremost...know what you can and cannot do as a notary in your state.

In Massachusetts I cannot give legal advice. I state up front with the customer/client that I cannot discuss the content of the documents; that if the customer/client has any questions they must discuss it with their contact person. I tell them that I am there (typically) to verify their signature (acknowledgment) or to have them affirm that what they are saying is the truth (jurat).

Know your limits...the type of document may or may not really matter.

"Know your limits"...but also know your documents...

if you've been in this industry then that may not be something you need reminding about. But keep in mind that along with acknowledging the signature and identity, we also need to give a brief summary of the document we are presenting to the borrower(s).

We don't go into the legalities of them by any means, but if you know the role it maintains in the package (pretty much nothing more than what they can read themselves) then that is part of the responsibility of being an NSA as well. Point and sign notaries are not what companies are looking for anymore. Again, we do not explain documents but we do give brief summaries of what they can read more in depth at their convenience.

Just my humble opinion and experience.

When I click on your name, there is little to read beyond your name and phone number. If I were a hiring party why would I call you?

If you are unsure of what to put in your profile, your personal space to to tell everyone about you, take a look at a few here for some ideas. Do not copy anyone else - but do tell about yourself along the same manner. Give the hiring parties something to work with. Don't lie, but it is ok to puff a bit; it is expected.

I'm outdated already, LOL. I looked at your profile yesterday, but not today. You have a good start. You need to change "licensed notary" to "commissioned notary". Every so often revisit your page and tweak to reflect your ongoing experience, your resume.

Good luck to you.

Hi Jba,
my profile should have been updated. Are you still not seeing my complete profile?
