Notary ASAP update

Just got this email from them: We have a large backlog of past due invoices we are trying to collect on and has unfortunately put us behind on getting checks out. I have someone specifically handling the accounting and he has indicated that as the checks come in, he pays for the oldest signings first and is still working on December signings but should be starting on January soon.

Didnt have any problems with them last year in October. They paid within 30 days. Didn't really check the new comments until recently and oh my...Im waiting for a January payment. So I guess I shouldn't expect my February payment till about June.

It appears to me that

they are seriously under-funded.
Any company that is solvent should have enough cash to pay AP, rather than to ask their sub-contractors to wait.
Looks like someone is headed for Chapter xx, and I for one do not want to get stuck getting a very small percentage of what is owed me after who knows how long in bankruptcy court.

With so many formerly good companies going out of business

and leaving us high and dry, I'm sure you all could understand why there would be some trepidation.

I know I personally haven't worked with you all in a while, but I, too, never had issues in the past. Again, unfortunately, we never know when that next "good company (title, SS)" is going to go bust.

It's happening so much in this economy. So when we get alerted that there is the possibility of another good company going out, not only does it NOT come as a surprise, but it invokes a whole lot of distrust, cynicism and fear.

It is sad that this is even having to be discussed but since it is out there and you all have had to opportunity to share your side, it is a relief to know that we're not losing "one of the good guys."

There are so many unscrupulous, lying, cheating companies out there, you can never be too careful.

Sorry to have participated in the propaganda but I'm happy and relieved to know it was not true.

Wishing you all the best.

Re: With so many formerly good companies going out of business

You make a good point, Cheryl, about being careful and staying alert. I think, however, that this particular thread is an excellent example of how that cuts both ways.

Not only do we need to be careful about who we choose to work with, we also need to take care about being too hasty to eliminate some companies from our list based on just a few comments posted by someone whose business we really know nothing about. A person who is retired (or semi-retired) and pursuing this as a sideline for some extra income, is likely to have much different perspective than someone who is pursuing this as a full time career. Plus everyone has their own business plan and their own criteria, as it should be.

Re: It appears to me that

Has nothing to do with being under funded. This happens every so often when we are extremely busy and then have clients who are not paying their bills or will not pay for cancelled files. Just in the past, it takes a bit longer to send checks out to vendors until we can catch up with the back log of overdue invoices. I'm doing everything in my power to collect without having them completely stop doing business with us. Also, being over or under funded is relative to the volume of work we receive, the amount of cancelled files we do not get paid on (but still pay to our notaries full fee), and the profit margin between what we pay the notary and actually receive from our customer. All of which are very dynamic.

We have been in business for 14 years and unfortunately this has happened in the past. Every time someone screams chapter XX but I always pull on additional resources to cover the bad debt of my clients. Please be patient with us, and I will do my best to reduce the time it takes to send out checks.

Re: It appears to me that

If you have clients who weren't paying you, why do you want to keep doing b usines with them? That's a serious question, btw, not a sarcastic retort. :-)

Re: It appears to me that

One client gives us a minimum of over $x00,000 in business consistently per year. Do we give up doing business with them because they are late to pay every so often? Sometimes it feels like its not worth it but then other times it provides work for lots of people who need money. Unfortunately we have to give them credit until they catch up and that's what kills us because we don't get any credit or leeway from our notaries.

Re: It appears to me that

That makes sense. I have some of my own slow pay clients that I continue to work with because they provide consistent work. Slow pay is one thing. No pay is someething else.

I always get paid by you guys, and usually quickly, so I tend to give some leeway when payment is slow.

Re: It appears to me that

If you aren’t “underfunded” as you say, why don’t you just pay your notaries when they do the job they contracted with you to do? It is none of our business how you collect the monies owed to you, or what kind of accounting system you use, and we don’t care. Just PAY us when we do what we say we will do. If you don’t or can’t (because you don’t have the money) I suggest you find a new line of work.

You ladies hang in there. I have no problem accepting business from you, you've always paid me, sometimes a little longer than 30 days but you have always paid me....no issues. It's always a pleasure to do business with you.

We're in for an onslaught so buckle up!

I haven't worked with you in awhile but it's nice to see a company take responsibility and give a heads up. I agree that the "good" companies should be given some leeway as these things happen. Like you said slow pay, ever once in awhile, is better than no pay. At lease they are not hiding and are being upfront. Good luck Notary ASAP!!!

Give them a break! If it wasn't for them I would not be a loan signing agent. They practically trained me on the job three years ago.

Velvet will get everyone paid, she is honest and keeps her word once they speed up the slow paying escrow offices....

I have been performing signings for Notary ASAP since 2005. I have always been paid. Some times within 30 days, sometimes longer. Bottom line they have always paid. That is good enough for me.

Re: Notary ASAP is the best client I've EVER had.

I have not worked with ASAP in a while, but when I did I always got paid and my fee was met. If you have any sigings in my area don't hesitate to call. I understand payment might come slow due to business slow down, this is very different from a company who makes it a policy to pay slow or not pay at all for my services.
