I just got a new desktop computer (same printer) and I can not get my computer to print to my legal and letter size tray like I did with the old desktop. It has been some time since I set the confugurations and I don't remember how.....Can someone plase help me? It is a Brother MFC 8460N.

I have a Brother HL-5370-DWT, but hopefully this will work for yours as well:
1) Click on Devices and Printers (It's within my start menu on Windows 7 or you can find it within Control Panel) and then click on your Brother printer's icon.
2) Click on "Customize your printer"
3) Click on "Advanced" tab
4) Click to add "Tray 2"
5) Below that click on "Tray 1" and define it as legal or letter and then click on Tray 2 and choose whichever one you didn't choose for Tray 1. I use Tray 1 for letter since it's the one at the top and I need to add letter more often than legal.
6) Click on "Apply" button.

Also make sure you've got the right printer driver(s) loaded onto your new pc. You should be able to download them from the internet, if necessary. (I'm not a Brother user, so I'm not familiar wit specifics.)

Driver problem on 5250dnt
Windows 7 does not show a separate driver for the dual tray on this model. It will use the 5250dn driver which will not show tray options when you go into the Advanced tab. I solved my problem using the dn driver and going into the Device Settings tab. Form to Tray Assignment you can change the settings next to Tray 1 and Tray 2. ---Change Tray 2 from Not Available to Legal from the drop down list on the right. Installable Options you need to show Tray 2 and/or Tray 3 as installed. ---Change Tray 2 from Not installed to Installed from the drop down list on the right.
I am not sure that the 5370dnt works under the same setup, but if you have a problem defining the trays go to the Device Setting tab and it should work.

Dual tray driver is not HL 5250 but HL 5250 series
The entire procedure I used was incorrect because Windows 7 located the wrong driver for the dual tray printer. W7 does not recognize the extra tray when it chooses a driver. In my case, it is now too old to be listed and has to be downloaded from Brother. When the correct driver was chosen, it appeared exactly the way it was outlined in the second post.
