Square vs Intuit?

Purchased the IPhone and used the Square today.

Had a friend tell me the Intuit was better because it was easier to use and because she was incorporated.
Didn't have enough time to ask about the differences. Any comments would be appreciated.

I will admit the 20 year old college student, in Riverside Ca, had to point out I was trying to scan the wrong part of his credit card (I was a little nervous LOL).
Anyway, I got it completed and changed most of my advertisment to reflect that I take credit cards.

I just use Google Checkout linked to my web site. Since everyone finds me on the web they can easily pay for my services online and I don't need a phone, app or device to scan cards. Fee is minimal too.

How many SS or ecrow companies will pay you this way?

I don't think any SS or title will pay with a credit card, but businesses and people want to pay with a credit card for public notary work. Many people don't carry a check book anymore.

Thank you. I can understand the use of credit cards for general notary work.

Paid for my hair cut last week with the square. My hairdresser loves it. I look for this to become pretty popular real quick.

Joan I have used Square since it came out, love it. My husband also uses it in his business. Fees are minimal and no contract and you can email the receipt to the customer with all your business info on it. Yes Sid most of the time it is for my GN work.

I use Square for my general notary practice. Customers love it and it is dirt cheap compared to other services. 2.75% for cards that are swiped, no transaction fee, no monthly minimums or fees, and funds deposit to your bank account within 48 hours (faster most of the time). It is super fast, giving you an immediate authorization, allowing the customer to sign with his/her finger, and allowing you to email or txt a receipt.

The service requires an Android or Iphone and they will give you the small card reader for free!

Joan, I use Square, and LOVE IT! I also email or text the receipt even before I walk away. My clients are very appreciative and I find it a great asset to the ease of me doing business. It is the size of a nickel and my clients look at me like they expected me to pull a full sized CC reader from my notary bag. The account features are extremely user friendly...and I LIKEY LIKEY! Hope you find your comfort zone in whatever app or device you choose to use. Best of luck!

I use the mophie one with my Iphone 4. Its like a case that attaches my my iphone and I can switch the bottom out and attach a non corded battery to rejuice my iphone.

I use the mophie for my other businesses and at expos. People love it. Also I use the intuit software as I can email the receipt directly to customers. I havent used square cuz it attaches to the top of the phone while my mophie attaches to the bottom like a USB. I also read it was more secure that way vs the square one.

I use Intuit because I don't have an IPhone or Android and Square has no option for manual credit card processing. I have an old relic phone (Blackberry Style) and the Intuit card reader doesn't support that phone either......BUT, it does support manual credit card processing - a little higher % for processing but when I did the math, it was only a few cents more than using the card reader. And with Intuit, the customer can have their receipt sent by email or text message. So I can "be in the game" still until I get a smart phone, which won't be until the end of this year (or later).

Re: Square vs Intuit? Help me understand...

True Statement? With Square you cannot enter a credit card number, but with Intuit you can.

Re: Square vs Intuit? Help me understand...

When I called, I was told by the Square technician that Square doesn't support any phone except IPhone or Androids so the manual feature will probably work on the IPhone or Android but on any other phone.

Intuit has it's list of phones that their card reader supports but those phones not on the list have the option of the manual feature. (YAY!!)

Should say: ".....so the manual feature will probably work on the IPhone or Android but not on any other phone."

Re: Square vs Intuit? Help me understand...

I use the Square on my Android phone. I find it very convenient. I just did a job for a man who called me from Ireland to procure some documents and send to him. He gave me his CC info, which I input to the Square account with no problems at all. Square also allows you to track cash transactions, so if you get paid in cash, you have a record which can be downloaded.

Yes you can enter the card manual if it won't swipe. I've had to do that a couple of times.
