Verizon wireless users
I got an email today that someone was trying to call my cell phone and getting a recording that I was not accepting phone calls, that and various other recordings that he just could not get the call to go through.
I called Verizon, they tested the tower around me and said everything was fine, she then called and her call came through so I have no idea what was wrong.
The Verizon rep did tell me that I should be updating my phone every 45 days or so, I've never done that and didn't even know it was possible.
Anyway, you can update your phone (Verizon) by pressing *228, at the voice prompt press 2 and then it automatically updates. Only took a minute or two.
Wonder how many calls I've been missing

I have some kind of LG, I don't like it. She said all phones except those with 4G need updates, and that *228 works on all of them.

Re: What kind of phone do you have that needs to be updated
I have Verizon service and know about the updating thing, but forget to do it. Another note - LG phones will not pick up service in my house. When I updated my phone a couple of years ago I tried two different LG's and they wouldn't pick up the phone calls. If the caller left a message the phone would ring for the incoming message but wouldn't ring for the incoming call. I finally went to the Verizon store and checked all the phones hanging on the wall and checked out the power bar on all the phones. LG's seemed to have lower bars then Sansung's, so I went with a Samsung phone and have been quite happy with it.

Re: What kind of phone do you have that needs to be updated
My mother in law has that issue with an ATT phone. The problem was that she never turned off the phone. Everything that runs on a computer code needs to be re-started every so often. From standard cell phones, iPhones, Androids, the flat screen TV's, routers, modems ... you name it.
The cell phone company will download the update while you are connected to the network, but it takes turning the phone off and then back on again to install it. Since most people turn off their phones often, this situation rarely comes up, but if you keep it charged all the time, never turn it off to change the battery or other reason, the updates won't install. Worse yet, the memory will fill up and you won't even download the updates and your phone will quit working.

Thanks Glenn
In the "settings" I can program my phone to go off at a certain time, and come on at a certain time - the phone takes care of itself - I don't have to remember to turn it off or on.
