Re: looking for a good oath is Spanish.

The jurat must be in the English language only. A jurat written in a foreign language is not acceptable. Saludos Rafa.

Jose, don't think Rafa's going to translate the Jurat. But, rather wants an oath in Spanish to administer. JMHO

Rafa: check your PM

Re: looking for a good oath is Spanish.

It's perfectly acceptable in California to give the oath in Spanish. So long as the notary and the signer can communicate with each other directly without assistance, then they can use any language or method necessary. The notarial certificates must be in English. It's also a HUGE no-no in California to advertise oneself as a "Notario" -- and they are cracking down on that.

We are allowed to advertise that we speak other languages, though, and may use them when needed.

That said, if your Spanish isn't good enough that you're not comfortable coming up with an oath, then I'm not sure you know enough to communicate directly with people for notarial purposes.

Re: looking for a good oath is Spanish.

In all fairness to Mung/CA, over the years we've had people here ask about how to word an oath in English, as well. Not much difference, imo. Wink I communicate pretty comfortably with borrowers in Spanish, but I've also wondered the same thing and have modified the wording I use for oaths in Spanish over the years. I'd be interested to hear how others word it, as well...

Re: looking for a good oath is Spanish.

This is what I do Rafa:

Este documento es una declaracion jurada y por lo tanto los tengo que poner bajo juramento, no es necesario que levante su mano derecha. Ustedes juran o afirman que lo que dice y contiene este documento
es correcto y verdadero en su mas alto entendimiento?

After they say "Si" I hand them the doc and have them sign and I proceed to sign and stamp.

Any other ideas from other bilingual notaries?

You are exactly right Janet K........

I have an oath I use on a regular basis but I am appearing before a judge and laywers in the morning (@ 6:30 AM no less) to place about 4 Spanish-speakers under oath. I just wanted to see what other notaries used. Jose's is by far the best I've heard yet! Gracias Jose.

De acuerdo... I like Jose's wording better than what I've been using also. Gracias a Jose, tambien!

Try this site Re: looking for a good oath is Spanish.

I don't speak/read/understand Spanish, but this might help.
