notary stamps
I have a fairly new notary stamp that is already not working consistently. Can any of you recommend a VERY good and consistent stamp? I have also had a problem on docs where the ink seems to bleed by the next day and the stamp isn't nearly as clear as it was originally. Could it be my paper or the stamp?

The Stingray stamp sold here on NR is a good, preinked stamp. I know people here have a negative opinion of the NNA, but their preinked stamp is also very excellent quality. I personally, however, prefer self inking rather than preinked, and as far as self inking stamps go, the Ideal stamp is the best IMO... And they sell them everywhere.

Also, preinked stamps tend to bleed through page more
than self inking.

I use a Trodat 4913 that I purchase here on NR. I really like it, and it's easy to re-ink (refill ink sold here too) You get a discount on supplies if you're a Premium Member. Also, you didn't say what kind of paper you use. I use 20# paper, but use multi-purpose as opposed to copy paper. I've never heard of the ink bleeding like that, and it sounds like it could be the stamp/ink you're using but there's no way to say for sure. IMO your best bet is to try another type of stamp. :-)

A few years ago there was a problem in the "rubber" impression material eventually sticking to the inking pad "slug" in the self inking stamps. A recent change in this material has eliminated this problem. The type of ink used to re-ink must be recommended for this use. Stamp specialty businesses and even Home Depot or Office Max can supply the proper ink. These are best purchased in the ball top bottle. Do NOT over ink.
