A pause to remember
In my travels the last couple of days, I've had occasion to pass a couple of cemeteries. I know it takes an army of people, but to see all the little flags by the graves of those who served in the military is just awe-inspiring.
Makes you realize how many have done so much for us.
Have a safe and sane Memorial Day.

Amen, watching all the men and women coming home, on their own two feet or on prosthetics, those returning in flag draped coffins is humbling. Makes me proud, and grateful that my dad and brother both survived three wars in tact, mostly. Wasn't without some mental stress.
If there is a way to employ a veteran, we need to. I had the opportunity to help two veterans in my neighborhood to receive cash for keys when their landlord was foreclosed upon. The bank helped them to relocate.
HAPPY MEMORIAL WEEKEND...nice to have three days after a rock and roll EOM week.

My father told me a story once about being on leave from WW2. He only had 3 days and hitchhiked from S.F. to Oaklahoma when his parents lived. Not 1 car would pass a soldier by who was hitchhiking during WW2. Most people would drive him a little further than they were going just to help a soldier get home in time.
With all the emphasis on lately on helping our veterans, maybe we're getting back to that way of thinking and acting.

Just stopped at the local cemetery on my way to run errands. Always try to cover an area and stop at the ones with flags and say a silent thanks, and if possible visit the WWII memorial downtown tomorrow evening.
A safe holiday to all and thank you for your service to those that served or are serving.

I watched the movie "Taking Chance" on HBO the other
night. It's the story of a Marine Col. who volunteers to be the escort to accompany the body of a young Marine killed in Iraq. It was so moving & a great reminder of what Memorial Day is really about.

I saw that movie a while back...looks at the emotions from
the person accompanying the body home - it is such an emotional movie.
