I just have to comment on expectations...
...because it's a very sad commentary on how this business has evolved when it's considered "awesome" to get paid in 12 days. When working directly for a title company, the expectation should be to be paid upon disbursement, which usually means getting your check in about a week - or less, if it's a local tc or if there isn't an RTC period. *This* should be NORMAL!
No offense to any posters above, but hiring parties get away with lots of the stuff that has degraded the nature of what we do because so many don't know anything different. This also applies to the "everybody does it" lines they give us - including about what fees they think we should accept.
Yeah, I know that anymore this probably sounds a bit like an oldtimer saying "We used to walk 2 miles to school, every day, uphill each way..." But I couldn't resist.

With all due obeisance to Janet's point -- and stature...
...it is unfair to compare a signing service with a title company under such circumstances.
A title company escrow process is set up to disburse funds immediately on real estate transactions. But normally, business runs on a 30-day cycle, and a <signing service> that pays on that 30-day cycle is doing precisely what it should have done.
Now, a title company that pays on a 30-day cycle is a different matter. It's taking advantage of the signing agent.

This is an example of a signing service abusing...
...its position vis a vis the signing agent. I inquired about a payment for a closing done 33 days ago for one of the largest, most professionally run, and most reputable signing services. Below is the response on its payment schedule. Note that a closing on Dec. 26 would not be paid until about March 1.
Our signing agents are paid once per month. Our check processing begins on the 25th or each month. We pay all orders completed between the 26th and the 25th of the prior period.
Please refer to the examples showing below for more information.
? Example 1 = Closings completed Between Jan 26th and Feb 25, are processed on Mar 25th.
? Example 2 = Closings completed on May 24th are processed on June 25th for payment.
? Example 3 = Closings completed on April 11th are processed on May 25th for payment.
? Example 4 = Closings completed on Dec 26th are processed on Feb 25th for payment.
Please allow 3-4 business days for all ACH transactions. Allow 5-7 business days for all checks sent via mail.

So it’s okay with you that they get paid from Title upon disbursal (say three days) and then they keep your money for 2 months before paying you? I think that’s fine if that’s what you agree to.

Re: This is an example of a signing service abusing...
You are 100% correct! My bad! I read your first post then went on to the second. I got it wrong! I apologize. I happen to agree with a 30 day billing cycle. My invoice states as much. I expect to be paid within 30 days from the day I did the work. Not from when (or if) the contracting party gets paid, If they pay in a week so much the better. After 30 days I start demanding, there is no excuse that I will accept, and I will never work for them again. If you don’t have the money to pay me for my services, then don’t hire me.

Has anyone taken their certification test and what did you think about it? Just Curious, as I did. I wanted to know where 150 questions would come from for a signing agent. Anyone??? The test I took was $25, are they not getting many takers??

Re: and, what did you think of those 150 questions?
I took the exam about two months ago after taking the training. I have to admit it was tough, real tough. This definitely wasn't some NNA "I know how to be a notary" certification. Some questions you really have to think through. Here are some of the questions I got wrong (they email you the ones you get wrong when they give you your score):
A VA loan: (a) will always require mortgage insurance for at least the first 5 years of the loan term (b) never requires mortgage insurance (c) will require mortgage insurance only if borrower has less than 20% equity in the home (d) will require mortgage insurance only if borrower doesn't pay for all closing costs at settlement
If you are closing on a purchase January 25th chances are the HUD settlement statement will reflect: (a) a credit to the seller and debit to the buyer for property taxes from January 1st to January 25th (b) a credit to the buyer and debit to the seller for property taxes from January 1st to January 25th (c) a credit to the seller and debit to the buyer for taxes from January 26th to December 31st (d) a credit to the buyer and debit to the seller for the taxes from January 26th to December 31st
What is a true statement regarding mortgage insurance reserves collected on the HUD Settlement Statement:
(a )Mortgage Insurance reserves are always collected on FHA and Conventional Uninsured (b) Mortgage Insurance reserves are usually never collected at settlement, only the first year's premium is collected for all insured loans (c) Mortgage Insurance is only paid monthly and nothing is ever collected at settlement (d) Mortgage Insurance is always optional
What documents also require the realtors to sign in a purchase transaction? (a) Broker/Agent Certification & Addendum to HUD-1 (b) FHA Amendatory Clause/VA Escape Clause & Broker/Agent Certification(c) (c) Addendum to HUD-1 & FHA Amendatory Clause/VA Escape Clause (d) Sales Contract & Broker/Agent Certification
If your document is printing cut off along the edges but you can see everything just fine on your computer screen this usually means:
(a) The adobe printer page scaling setting is set to none, which is incorrect (b) The title insurance company scanned the in the docs wrong and you will need to call them (c) immediately (d) The adobe print to paper size source is not checked in the printer settings The title insurance company wanted you to print it out this way

Re: I'd like to know if they deducted $18 out of your check?
I took the test, and there were 142 questions. You have to get 85% to pass their test. I passed I learned a lot from their lessons . I just signed up about 2 weeks ago and decided to to study and take their test. I'm glad I passed. The best thing I'm looking forward to is getting paid within 2 weeks of the time I do a signing personally. I feel the notary should get paid within 2 weeks. everyone else gets on time except the notary. Keep this in mine , no one gets anything until the notary does his or her job. so why are we the last ones to get paid.

That is good news. I linked your post to SC. Despite what
some have posted here, payment from ss in 12 days is good (standard is 30 days). I haven't worked with them yet personally, and there have been mixed comments on the forum about needing to take their certification test, etc. I need to look into it further, because I lost biz to a fav client when they moved to this system.

Re: That is good news. I linked your post to SC. Despite what
If I have my facts straight, this company advertises that notaries are hired directly by and deal directly with the tc, so when I made the post above, I assumed this was payment from a tc. Did I assume incorrectly? If so, my bad. My invoices also say net 30, but for most of my tc assignments, the checks come much sooner.

I signed up with Direct Closers and got a call from Title Processing Center for a closing. It was a excellent experience with no problems and payment was received within 2 weeks! I'd say that's pretty awesome since most companies take up to 30 or more days to pay.
