Don't Give It Away!
American Bar Association has a great article about why you should not work for free or discounted rates in hopes of getting future business.

Love, respect and live this comment from the article:
"Once you've set the floor for the price of your service as something less than you believe it's worth (whether it's a discounted fee or a freebie), you've also established a ceiling for what you can charge that client in the future. You've now defined both the price and the value of your service.

all of you who think you'll "make it up w/ volume"?? You ACTUALLY may get more volume b/c it's no sweat off THEIR noses - duh! It's YOUR blood sweat & tears (& gas & paper & toner, elec, time, etc.)

My favorite take-away: "Once you've set the floor for the price of your service as something less than you believe it's worth (whether it's a discounted fee or a freebie), you've also established a ceiling for what you can charge that client in the future. You've now defined both the price and the value of your service."
I'll keep this in mind for all my endeavors.
