There's been quite a bit of discussion lately on MortgageDocs. Good luck with getting your fee approved, whenever I countered with a higher fee I felt like I had changed professions; no offense to the dental profession but we as notaries should be pulling teeth to get the fee that is appropriate to the work involved.
After a fiasco of a purchase signing from them (I won't bore with the details--suffice to say between Title and myself the signing took place), I told them to take me off their emails and remove my name from their database. If you as a notary are to the point where you feel it is necessary to accept fees that you KNOW are too low . . . well I don't know what to say or think.

Loan modification or not, I wouldn't take that fee if the borrower brought the docs to me. ANYONE accepting similar fees is a fool and a disgrace to our profession. JMO

Really, a number of years ago, I took thier assignments which were for e-doc printing, meet borrower in a back and return docs. Then, they decided to reduce their fee for print charge to $20 with the statement that all you need to do ware direct the e-mail with the docs to the printer and go about you business. I basicly stop accepting their assigmnets then. Rember this was over 7 years ago. For this assignment, $20 would just cover the gas I would need to use in my auto. It is out of my home county, about 30 miles way. PS Thier several Notaries in this small area county but I can assure they wouldn"t do it for this.

Re: They call me all the time with that kind of offer for Car Lo
Sorry, I fat fingered that one.
Car Loans. If they have one outside my county the offer $30. I keep telling them no (maybe I should start saying HE** NO). They act as those that is a perfectly acceptable fee to drive over 50 miles R/T, print the docs and get them signed. FACT: Just the car expense for a 50 mile R/T would be over $25.00. Who is doing these signings for this fee? Must be a very charitable person. I am one, but I want my charity to benefit deserving people, not some greedy person who is trying to get rich off of me. I know that everyone has to at least make lunch money, but I sure don't want them to have a super buffet at my cost.

My reply
MortgageDocs:
Thank you for the proposed assignment, and I'll be happy to accomodate you. However, you need to send me a revised confirmation. The one you sent incorrectly lists my print fee; it is $35, not $20. And the confirmation inadvertently left the closing fee off entirely. Please send the revised confirmation immediately if you wish me to guarantee you a time slot today.
