Nations Signature Closers of Lenexa - response
After a discussion here on NotRot about the $25 fee that NSC charges to its signing agents, I emailed NSC so they could see how dimly their actions are viewed by the notary community. It took two weeks, but I just now got a response. It won't change my mind about them...but for what it's worth, here is the response:
We do charge a $25 dollar admin to our more preferred notaries to help cover the cost of doing background checks and keeping our database up to date. However if you decline this fee we do not take it out of your check if we choose to use you for future closings. However there have been cases when the admin fee comes out if even when you decline this fee. This is an error in our accounting department and if this is ever the case all you have to do is inform us of the error and we will have you a check cut that day for the fee that was removed. I have a friend that has a SS here in Colorado. She has approximately 25,000 notaries in her data base. Let’s see….at $25 per that would be around $625,000.00! She could retire!! Maybe I should let her know? Now she does all her own billing, record keeping, background checks, E&O ins checks, W-9’s, 1099 info etc. herself for free. And her info/photo can be found here on NR. (she is also a long time notary/signing agent, her zip is 80108) !

I will say that this is true... I declined to pay the $25 last summer - I only did a handful of closings for them a year, and usually make it a practice not to pay for work. I accepted an appointment from them last month, they met my stated fee but upon payment, the $25 was deducted from my check. Someone from NR mentioned it to NSC, next thing I know, Brandon contacted me by email - apologized for the accounting error and put a check in the mail the next day. He sounded so much older in his email - very professional - very unlike his FB page - oh my! ~Melissa~

Wow, there was an article in a newspaper about how potential employers are googling you as you interview to see what comes up. I can tell you for me, if that picture came up, I'd finish the interview right quickly and throw the resume in the trash. I know FB is different for the "younger" generation, but it can still make a difference to an "older" employer.
To know my potential earnings are in his hand - no way dude
