I would suggest you volunteer for a VITA site along with H&R classes. I have been volunteering for a VITA site for about 6 years. Each year a group of us do about 1500-2000 returns, the knowledge you will gain will be invaluable to start.
I would not consider H&R if your thinking of becoming an EA. H&R is ok for basic to moderately complex 1040's. You'll need additional study for returns that include daycare or rental properties. You'll have to read between the lines, because classes will not tell you everything, for example, the pros and cons of home office deduction, excluding notary income, or how you can even claim a unrelated stranger as a dependent.
The EA test is 3 parts, very hard and most people take a year or more to even attempt to test. Google EA classes, there are a few good ones with reviews. I have just started studying using Gleim.
Hope that helps and good luck.
