Wa Law
Is there any weird stupid law in Wa, saying the notary is suppose to stamp over the verbiage in acks/jurats?
Can we all say NO at the same time?

No law anywhere that I know of that allows us to stamp over any of the language.

Didn't you hear of that new rule, soon it will be nationwide... Sorry, I just saw something similar last week on a redo from another notary.

No, never heard of anything like that. (I'm in WA). Many states and documents come with jurat language that doesn't match WA, so carry pre-printed forms that have WA language, but I would never stamp over language. I have had docs sent back before for stamping over text (even just the MERS footer) and even for being "too close" to text, so stamping over text sounds kind of outrageous to me.

I had a split signing yesterday. The notary actually stamped right dead center over the date he'd written in and over where it asks for commission expiration date. On loose acks he stamped fine, just on the docs he stamped directly over the verbiage. Funny thing even though his stamp is round and a little big, there was room to stamp without touching any text. He also highlighted every signature line, put 3 dashes on all the initial pages (3 signers) including the deed and riders and did other strange things.
As bad as his was, it wasn't as bad as another Wa notary I followed in another split signing a couple of months ago. She actually put a big X, or scribbled (yes scribbled) out my borrowers name under her signature line. I guess she didn't want anyone to think she had notarized my borrower, and wasn't smart enough to put her name in the acks/jurats on the docs. That was only one of her major mistakes.
Thank goodness, Wa has more than those two notaries....

I WISH WA required testing.
The stuff I've heard is completely embarrassing ranging from "the last notary brought her kids/dog/parakeet" (Ok, I made the parakeet up) to notaries signing off on John Smith Junior's paperwork when it was John Smith present. Oy Vey.
I've had companies stop using me because my fees were "too high" and then the next day call me back and say "Never again! You get what you pay for!"

Note for WA Notaries--Great resources at State level
There's a great Notary Listserv, and Linda at the Notaries department is a wonderful resource. You might drop her a message and ask her if she's every heard of stamping over language (if you were actually directed to do so by a TC?)
Linda's info is: Mead, Linda (DOL) <[e-mail address]>
