What a rip off

Just received the following from e-notaries.net.

We are a Loan Servicing Agency that provides Notary Closings and a Field Service Support to our clients, and are based out of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

"We are requesting for a signing to be completed on Tuesday 05/15/2012 9:00AM in THE VILLAGES, FL 32162. The signing is a refinance for $70 and it will be sent as an e-doc. We require a portion of the loan documents to be faxed back prior to shipment.

If you are interested in completing this signing, please email a confirmation as soon as possible with your contact information. YOU MUST indicate the date of your last signing and approximately how many signings you complete monthly. Thanks. "

You should respond something like:

Yes, I woud be happy to complete this signing for you. The date of my last signing was five minutes ago and I don't have time right now to count the number of signings I do each month. Most of my signings pay $125 with no fax back requirements and for this I provide red carpet service to all parties. Because you are offering significantly less than standard loan-signing fees, borrowers will be required to meet me at a time and place convenient to my schedule. Please provide your credit card number so that borrowers can use it at Fed Ex to fax back your required documents before they drop off the package. Thank you.

Heck, no...

If they came to me, I would NOT print & complete a signing for $70.

I suggest to use the cost at Fed Ex/Kinkos to every company that requests volume faxbacks. When you receive the order, simply reply with confirming the fee + $25 Kinkos fax costs. it's time they paid for the service they request.

We had a file last month, and the title company happily agreed to pay the $57 cost for faxback at Kinkos.

Sounds like an idea well worth considering. Implicit in the request for faxbacks is the fact that you either use a service like FedEx Kinkos OR you go back to your home office to do them, requiring another trip later to drop them off for shipping. That means more time and mileage.

Funny, isn't it, how people don't question that FedEx Kinko's includes overhead costs in their pricing for faxes, but some expect us to include it in our flat rate pricing and just eat the extra cost. (Obviously that's not true of all companies.) Actually, it's our own faults if WE don't realize that we need to include charges for overhead costs when pricing out these services... Those companies request it because they can.

Just got an offer for a debt foreclosure (which I don't do) 50 miles away for $60.

I just got the same thing - and E. Orlando is significantly further away than you, Monica. I don't understand your reluctance to use Goldgirl's response. I think I will just use it now. What's to lose?

My response was an automatic one

"Thank you for your interest in completing our request. You will be
added to our database based on your interest if this order has already
been assigned. If this order has yet to be assigned, you will be
contacted with a confirmation.

Thank you."

They got a database from somewhere and it appears from this wording that I did not actually sign up with them. I remember investigating, but rejecting due to fees most likely.

I have gotten several signing requests from this company, but have always ignored them due to the low fee and the fax back requirements. Also, I feel it really is none of their real business how many signings I do each month and the date of my last signing.
My mother-in-law lives in the Villages, so I know how big that place is (I think it is larger then the town I live in). I would ask for additional just to go through all of the round-abouts!
