printiong speed for bar code docs

I have found that docs with bar codes will slow down mr printed to a crawl...1 page every 30 to 40 seconds..this is usually on the Chase documents

Is anyone else having this problem? If not what type laser printer are you using?

Hi Stephen, that could be due to a couple reasons. Either a lack of ram on your computer or lack of memory on your printer. You may want to check those two things.

Wowie! It's heart warming to see somebody else still has an HP 1200 Series printer! It's probably considered by most to be an antique, compared to all of the new equipment on the market nowadays. I've completed over 10,000 transactions using it over the years without missing a heartbeat. I feel like giving it a hug when I sit down to my computer in the morning! ;-)

Its not the bar code that is slowing down printing speed. There are two factors, one is if the docs, no matter if its swiftsend, PDF, or any other format, if inside of any of those media formats the docs are an image file versus a document file, its going to be a slow down, depending on the printer too.

If the printer has a slow processor and low memory capacity, then the docs will spool from the PC. If the printer has a fast processor and sufficient memory, it will print faster even with those huge memory consuming image files.

I have a laser printer that somtimes slows to 8 pages per minute, but I also have an officejet pro that will print at 22 pages per minute with the same file, because it has a huge memory capacity and a 3 times faster processor. I use an HP laser and an HP Officejet pro. The office jet uses pigment based (rather than dye based) ink and I print borrower copies on it. Laser is always used for original docs. (I have been informed that pigment inkjet printing will hold up as well as laser printed docs but I dont do that.)

My next printer will be a 45 ppm laser that will rarely slow down to less than 35 ppm. I plan to purchase it later this year.

What is this 45ppm laser printer you speak of? ...

.... I am curious. I might be in the market for a new(er) printer, that is if my currant ancient HP's give me just one more problem.

I will post this later, I am looking at three different models and when I get the "professional" reviews back, I will then pick the one I like. They can be a bit price heavy.

Just to give you a jump on this. Two of the three are a P3015 and an M601 laser printer. I have a third one to consider but it is higher priced. All are HP.

Telling text from image

An easy way to tell if the document is an image or text is to try to select some words with your mouse. If it's text then selecting will act like it usually does in a word processor. If it's image, it will act differently. For example, in PDF, the cursor will be cross shaped rather than a vertical line, and it will just shade a rectangle wherever you drag the mouse.

40PPM+++

I have a Lexmark T640 printer that will print over 40 PPM, bar codes or not. My toner cost is less than .005 per page, plus paper. It is the least expensive way to print. The printer itself cost about $900 and the additional 500 sheet feeders cost $250 each. You might be able to find one refurbished for less. This is the least expensive way to print. Don't be fooled by the low cost printers, they will cost you more for toner and they wear out easily.

Re: 40PPM+++

Ditto on the Lexmark. When I was working at the TC, we would have 4 closings on the network queue and they would all print out consecutively without a hiccup.

It's all about the printer. I got away from HP printers

because they first put the docs in the printer memory, which slowed the process to a snail's pace at times. Brother printers don't do that.

I purchased a refurbished Hp4350 NT from Printer Pros. It spits the paper out at 55ppm. Love it.
