We can in FL if it was issued within the last 5 years

Chances are if it WAS issued then it won't be expired...but those are FL's terms.

Tiffany, if you are in California, you may accept an expired ID if and ONLY if it was issued within the previous 5 years. So you have to check the issuance date. If it has been more than 5 years, you're out of luck. The vast majority of CA driver licenses and ID cards that expire have issue dates that are more than 5 years prior. There are a few exceptions, but only a few.

Some lenders like GMAC will not accept an expired ID

It may be a good idea to check with them also. Even within the 5 year rule.
