Cutting Cost

I would love to get rid of my landline phone. The only reason that I need it is for faxbacks.
I can receive faxes through my free e-fax. Does anyone know how to fax back without a landline? Any response would be helpful.
Thanks

Invest in a scanner. You can then send it by email. It works for many people.

However, some tc's don't want emailed scanned documents, they have a designated fax line for faxbacks, due to privacy issues and the possibility of email being hacked.

Interesting. In 10+ years, I haven't had that issue. n/m

Nor have I. If so, I would encrypt them. n/m

I put my fax machine on a Magic Jack. If that were to fail, I would scan and email.

It works for the number of pages I fax.

How did you get the faxing to work on Magic Jack? I've never been able to get it to work and Magic Jack had no solutions for the problem either.

I Usually scan and send via email but every once in a great while some TC wants fax backs the old fashion way. I use gotfreefax.com. http://www.gotfreefax.com/
It has worked great for me. I buy 300 pages for $19. May take me a few years to use all 300 pages available to me. I also have Magic Jack and used it for faxing. Magic Jack worked for awhile but now has trouble sending but still can receive, not dependable enough for me.
Good Luck

I have Magic Jack Plus. I plug the MJ into the router and run a telephone cord to the fax machine. I also have a telephone attached to the fax machine so I may make phone calls from it.

I didn't read all the posts inbetween your question and this reply but if you have a scanner you can use an email fax. I use faxaway.com - not an ad just info.

Someone may have said this. I haven't read each response.

We use Ooma. Got the system off of WOOT.com a couple of years ago for about $90. The monthly cost is about $3. If you want more than one number it is about $1 more per month more. You have an internet line through existing landline plug-ins. Computer does not have to be on. It also takes messages you can check on the box or online or emailed to you. Faxes great and you still can have phones all over the house instead of chasing a cell you lay down somewhere. Food for thought. WOOT has these often. I think getting them somewhere else they are about $130. Never have any trouble with it. Got one for our daughter and she loves it.

Something else to keep in mind...

When Hurricane Sandy knocked out power in NY and NJ, it also knocked out cellphone and internet service in many areas. This is similar to what happened about 10 years ago during a major blackout in that area. In both cases, the only ones who still had reliable phone service were the people who had what is known as POTS - Plain Old Telephone Service. There's something reassuring about being able to pick up the phone handset during a blackout, hear a dial tone, and be able to call 911 if you have to...

The only reason I was able to reach my brother and my mom in NJ after the hurricane is because they both still have landlines. Nothing else was working at that time.
