First ever for me

In 10 years as an NSA, I've done lotza hospital signings. Did one today, but quite different from all the others. I was the patient, and the signer came to me.

Went into the ER Saturday for some major respiratory distress; I have COPD, and that's an annual or even semi-annual event. Had not expected to be admitted, but the doctor thought it best I not go home, so upstairs I went.

Got a call from a young lady who needed something notarized today, so the UPS option wasn't available. I told her I woud do it if she came to the hospital. She agreed, and did. Only charged her the state mandatory maximum; no milage, since she came to me. Guess I could have charged weekend rates, but it wasn't like she was interfering with my social calendar; I had already had to miss both of my daughter's baby showers, and it was for sure I wasn't going out for lunch.

Nice of you to do that. But, you should have had her pick up a milkshake on the way.

Hope you recover well. Do you keep a stamp and journal in your pocket at all times, just in case??

Wow! Do you carry your Notary Public seal with you all the time or do you not need a seal in Arizona to notarize a document?

Tony, When you can't breathe, you will take anything. Prednisone does wonders for respitory problems.

Buddy, yes it does wonders but it is addicting with several side effects which eventually will send you to your grave

Re: Ae they putting pockets in hospital gowns now days?

Hit post too soon.

I guess I left the wrong impression. I posted from home; the hospital only kept me overnight. This is an episodic experience for me; happens once or twice a year. In some quarters, it does tend to lead to wild celebrating, in the hope that I will emerge from the hospital feet first. So far, I have managed to disappoint them.

I keep a stamp in my car. Texas requires a journal, but does not require that the signer sign in the journal, so if I am caught without my briefcase, I can go ahead and notarize and later enter the relevant information in the journal.

I actually did two notarizations in the hospital. The last attending nurse I had learned I was a notary, and asked if I could notarize an affidavit for her. Didn't charge at all for that one, though if I had known earlier that I would be doing that favor I might have demanded a back rub as a quid pro quo. Just because a dirty old man can't breathe doesn't mean he can't dream.

Hugh, I hope you're back on your feet very soon.

I have early COPD (take Advair 2x/day) - lucky for me, still early, but I can relate. I hope all is well with you and you're stabilized soon.

Used to, a visit to the hospital did have one upside:

I would get fawned over by legions of buxom nurses. Now, I'm just as likely to draw a mustachioed, hairy legged nurse -- and the male nurses are even worse.
