Newsflash...

I had a SS try and 'chastice' me today because I did not call them to inquire about the docs. I have been too busy lately and I dont have time to babysit docs. I sent them an email 1 hour before the closing and told them that I could no longer handle the signing and she said that she wish I would have said something earlier and she was have got on the horn. That is not my job! Why should I have to remind YOU of a closing that you called ME about!?!?! Ridiculous, sorry I just had to vent Smile

Maybe it's only me, so tell me, do you guys call around looking for docs? Because I dont.

Nope I dont call looking for docs. If they arent in my inbox at least 1 hr prior, I go on about my day. Im doing other signings. I dont have time nor is it my job to inquire about docs. What the hell is the SS for?

Re: Newsflash...EXACTLY!!!!

Thank you!!!! I think she messed up by forgetting to check on the docs herself and was looking for someone to blame. She said she didnt realize that I needed them right away lol; it was 1 hr before a closing that was 20 miles away. Unreal.

I call 2 hours before the closing

I work regularly for several companies and I want to do what I can to make the process go smoothly.

Re: I call 2 hours before the closing

The companies that I regularly work for get the docs out in a timely manner without any nudging from me, thank goodness.

Re: I call 2 hours before the closing

AMEN BossLady! I have a couple of GREAT companies I work with and they get the docs to me well before the appointment time. I bend over backwards for those companies when they need me to - they are that great to work with. I don't do that for the companies that treat notaries like we are a dime a dozen.

If I have the time.

I call 3 hours before, then 2, then at 1.5 cancel.

Re: I call 2 hours before the closing

LynnNC-

I'm with you. I realize that my client has a lot going on and may not realize that I have not received docs for just one of what is assuredly many closings scheduled that day.

It takes just a minute for a friendly reminder, I am less likely to get stuck sweating out a rush print job, and I have received much appreciation for it.

I don't like to chase after docs anymore than I like to

chase after my money!
It's their job to get the docs out on time, and shouldn't be our problem if they don't.
I've been toooooo flexible on that issue, and have to start setting more limits.

Re: I don't like to chase after docs anymore than I like to

when i get the confirm i email back and say i need to leave at such and such a time so i need docs drop dead time of _________ and that is it. if i don't hear from them or get them by my drop dead time i turn it back. i don't have time to call and sometimes can't get through anyway and this way it is in writing. most of my clients are real good and those that aren't i am weeding out. i want a life.

No. I don't call for docs. That's their job to get the docs out. I don't have time to manage their work.

Creates too much havoc when docs are late - especially when the unexpected happens. Had 2 signings Mon - one of which was accepted at last minute. Had docs for the originally scheduled one. Docs weren't ready on the earlier appt. I accepted at last minute; but when they finally were ready, my internet NETWORK WASN'T. I was aghast! I got the borrower's ok to come an hour later (still giving me time for the later appt.), but had to change signing locations. Worked out well, but my Stress level was at an all-time high. Of course, that signing would run late (signer was older and went a little slower) and I ended up stuck in Rush Hour traffic trying to get to my originally scheduled appt. Lots of drama, for sure. Don't know who to blame: Myself for accepting the same-day one w/out ready docs; Myself for not knowing I had to restart my computer to reset the network; and the list could go on, I suppose.
The point is, the SS needs to understand that regularly operating like this, leaves little room for the unexpected and then there's no time to fully read all instructions (like the one that said, execute TWO copies of HUD1!). Missed that one. Oh well, . . . Won't mind going back to the nice older lady if needed. She was so grateful and wanted to "pay me." Told her I was being paid. She gave me a bottle of lemonade, some chocolates and a key chain!!

Re: Newsflash: Notaries are People, too

Did I mention there were fax-backs on both?! Felt like I needed a taste of the "recipe" that evening. Yes, we definitely do need to set some boundaries in order to have a LIFE (centralny)
