Notrot needs a sticky forum or something

the various forums we have here, Harry should make one titled "getting started" or something similar and sticky or place all the valuable messages from this forum in there so when newbies ask those newbie questions we can just point them to look at that forum.

I have never said that. :)

I have watched with wonder as Harry has created this fantastic forum that grows and grows and collects information at the speed of light, while other forums with newbie tabs languish for hours or days at a time.

The proof is in the pudding. This is a very successful forum. I wholeheartedly approve of the way that Harry has developed it and I have no suggestions to make it better. It is THE best. I leave it in his capable hands and plans.

Well maybe, but I like it just the way it is - I much prefer it to the way the numbers forum is formatted.

Oh, Copper, isn't that the truth. I don't even go there

because of the ordering. Wastes too much time.

I agree. Every now and then when I get prodded by an email from the owner of that site about the wonderful things going on there, I try it out. All it takes is one look at all the different choices for my eyes to glaze over and for me to move on or come right back here. Plus, I'm always happy to support the ownership here, as they earn it over and over again. And, well, I think I'll just leave it at that.... Wink

Re: Us Dang Newbies Need Search Training

I'm new around here and I agree it would be nice to have a "newbie" section where I don't feel like I'm frustrating everyone with my stupid beginner question. The problem we have is that the SEARCH function does not function very well. I always use it before I post, but often either nothing comes up or there is so much info it times out. Maybe we newbies need instruction on how to use SEARCH. But I really appreciate all of your help and patience. I was a notary for 6 months before I started SA work, took 2 different signing agent courses, read books etc., have prior real estate experience, but I run into things I have no idea how to handle. Incompleted documents, no clue documents, wierd bizzare I have no clue what you are asking me to do instructions. I have no idea what it was like when you all began, but getting information without coming to the forum for help seems very difficult. Bring on the Newbie section, I just hope some of you hop in it occasionally to help us out Smile Thanks again for being here for us.

if you have a legitimate question with regards to a

general Notary concern, or Document Signing, someone on this forum will always respond to you. Smile

Carol,

There is no amout of training out there that will prepair you for everything you will encounter as a NSA. That's why this forum is so valuable, we talk about the problems we encounter and all the unusuall situations we run accross.

You've done all I would expect.

Ask away.

Re: Us Dang Newbies Need Search Training

You hit on a very good point - perhaps unintentionally - about one of the problems with a separate newbie forum. There are other places (that shall go unnamed) that DO have something similar, but when I read some of the responses, it really makes me cringe. The problem is that the experienced folks aren't terribly interested in reading those posts, so you end up with the blind leading the blind.

Sometimes the worst offenders, it seems, are those who are just a little beyond newbie... (No offense to anyone who might relate to this stage - 'cause I have no idea who you are.) They've come a very long way since they got started and may be enthusiastic about helping those back where they were not so very long ago, but they don't yet know what they don't know. And they may know just enough to be dangerous...

By the way, one of the keys to success with searching is to try a variety of different ways of saying things. Also experiment with the different options for searching for information. Might make a very big difference.

I think most of you missed my point of a sticky

Forum or such. I'm not talking about adding another talk forum. Stickys are previous helpful posts just placed in a section where it's easier to find. Not a place to go and post new discussions.

I always see veterans repost messages from like 7+ yrs ago that clearly get buried and many don't know how to properly do
searches to find specific answers to their questions.

So a place to bring all those gem posts can be posted in one area easily accessible.

Re: I think most of you missed my point of a sticky

I don't know, Toni. Even if those posts were all nicely "wrapped" would people reference?
Just how motivating is the "diploma" icon NOW for newbies? That's why I'm not sure I get the upcoming Training section. What will make people USE IT (anymore than they use NP101)?

I was listening to a news feed about "obsolete" computer icons - from the days when people weren't familiar with computers and needed a lot more hand-holding: you know, like the floppy disk (save) and the trash can? Some said these are pretty archaic/useless now, so why have them!

My suggestion: a "friendly" shoe icon (remember the Gong Show? Smile Link the "shoe" with the helpful post section. How many "shoes" do you think will get thrown at folks before they figure they have to use the Search Or try on the "shoe"? A shoe speaks louder than words!
Not meant to maim- but motivate or just jolt a little.

(and I agree about the 'Search' - not as precise as I'd like; it took a little practice to learn to think like "it" does)
